...so, after having this Macbook for the last four months i realized i have Garage Band (duh) and should probably learn to use it a bit....nothing too complicated, just be able to record some basic tracks to play along to or overdub...like a practice tool...'problem is, i am almost completely eTarded...:freak:...the fact that i've made it this far on the computer still amazes me. So, does anyone have any helpful tips for setting up a basic drum track and recoding either an acoustic or electric guitar and maybe vocals on Garage Band that they would like to share? Even a link to an online tutorial or something would be cool...Also, is this program any good for my desired needs or should i look for something else? Any peripherals i might need to buy?

You'll probably need some kind of an interface to plug your guitar into your computer, the Digitech RP350 is compatible with Garageband for example. If you can plug your guitar straight into your Macbook then you'll need audio drivers as there will probably be a bit of latency between when you play a note and when you hear it through your computer's speakers.

I just recently purchased a Line 6 Toneport UX1 to use with guitar/bass/vocals and my iBook. Very easy to set up with Garageband and record guitar.

Garageband has drum loops, but they aren't great (at least the package that came with my mine; you can purchase more). Although if you have the patience you can alter the drum tracks significantly note by note. I don't have that kind of patience! Someone else may have advice on drum loops.

I'd recommend the Toneport if you just want a basic means of making some demo-type tracks with Garageband. Oh, and it is cheap: $89.

I use an sm57 into a little 4 channel Behringer mixer straight into the soundcard of my macbook. Garage band is a pretty simple program and a good way to start. I just drop a drum loop in and hit record.
