Members animal69
Hey, I'm having some trouble understanding the parameters on my phaser and 2 flangers I have. These effects are both based on effects that were originally done with tape so that's how I understand the theory behind them. But I don't know how this translates into pedals. The Phaser is a DOD and has Speed and Depth knobs as well as a Regen knob. The first flanger is a Rocktek with Feedback, Level, Depth and Rate knobs The second flanger is DOD and has Delay, Speed, Width and Regen knobs. Any help would be appreciated. Members Captain Commie
Speed on the phaser alters the rate at which the comb filter moves through the audio spectrum, depth controls the size of the "teeth" on the comb filtering through the audio spectrum. On a flanger rate and depth are the same as on a phaser, however, the comb filter has a different shape than that of a phaser. This gives it the flanger sound. Feedback is the amount of signal that is fed back into the chain to be flanged again. I believe regen is the same thing.
Members animal69
thanks professor pinko. do you know of a pretty good introduction to these types of filters? what exactly is a comb filter and what type of filter is used in flanging? i tried reading wiki, which is usually pretty accessible but i couldn't grasp it.
