Members johanwastaken
Please welcome my new friend: Vox AC15CC1 Some of you may have heard that I had the opportunity to trade my Laney VC30 for some dude's Vox AC15CC1. After some thinking, I realized this was a no-brainer. After some trouble with the local music store's amp tech, I finally picked up my VC30 yesteray. Met this guy today to trade the amps. All I can say is wow I really love this amp. Everything the VC30 was lacking, this amp's got it. The cleans are simply beautiful. So nice and bright and just as beautiful as Swedish girls. () This together with my SMMH set to slightly modulated repeats is wonderful. I could sit all day with that. Subtle reverse delays also sounds great and volume swells are almost too good. My MI Audio Blue Boy Deluxe which in my VC30 sounded just dull now sounds much better. The keyword here is "meaty". Nice and fat sounding. The RAT sounds amazing as well. It really is much like the BBD but more gain. And with the AC15 I can have the filter knob at noon while on the VC30 I had to have it at the lowest possible setting for it to sound the same. I'm not a big fan of my Big Muff with this yet though. It sounds too nasal and thin. It's probably just a matter of finding the right settings though so I'll get there. Compared to the VC30, this amp blows me away. I don't see many similarities between these two but maybe there are. People say the stock speaker isn't at all that good but if it sounds this good stock I can't imagine how good it'll be when I put a Red Fang in there or similar. And with new tubes, it'll probably be tonal heaven. It sounds like I'm exaggerating but I'm really not. I sure am in the honeymoon still but I can't imagine it sounding any worse to my ears later on. Members Ambient Exposure
Welcome to the bliss of Vox my friend. If you don;t already have the blue in it, put a Weber Blue in to make the sound so much sweeter.

Members johanwastaken
Thanks. I haven't put a new speaker in but I will. Weber Blue Dog or Red Fang. rossowj, get the regular one and buy a Blue Dog separately. It's cheaper. I also forgot to mention my strings are older than your mom. Getting some new strings this week. Damn, with new speaker, tubes and strings this is gonna be so awesome.

Members HeartfeltDawn
Maybe I just got a duffer but I hated my AC15CC1X. The reverb was horrible and it sounded dreadful compared to my missed AC15TBX. I was happy to sell it and much happier with the Laney VC15. Glad you're happy with it though! Members melx
I'm actually unsure what you see in the VC30. Maybe the new speakers really really helped? Or maybe we just have opinions. I never changed the speakers in my amp, it came with Jensen's but yeah, the H/H's are awful, but it was the valves that totally transformed it. I think people under estimate how much different vavles and speakers define the sound of an amp. I was only kidding anyway, I'm glad you've found something you are happy with......well almost eh? You still wanna change the speaker!!

Members HeartfeltDawn
Hey, this is a great amp. Maybe not your cup of tea though. I wish it had been my cup of tea. I used to have an AC15TBX, the last UK-made ones before the exodus to cheaper climes, and it was unreliable, cost me a lot in repairs but sounded fantastic. I was silly to sell it. I bought the CC1X hoping it'd be a close match as I'd heard a lot of good things about the AC30CC but the AC15CC was a huge disappointment. It didn't come close to the TBX. Now go and get some Harma valves. Bugger the cost. They rule.

You told me to get harmas but I didn't listen since they costed much more I don't know if I want to change the speaker. I don't know its weaknesses yet but everyone says it sounds so much better with a Blue Dog or similar. Should I?

Members timeforheroes
i had a vox ac15cc1 for about 2 weeks, then i sold it........ to get a ac30cc. even after having the ac30 for some time, i would regret the sound of the ac15. the 15 is just soooooo simple and it really seemed to have a certain sweetness.......the cleans were like ear-candy. Yeah I really see what you mean. The cleans are just pure ear-candy. Definitely the sound I've been having in my head. Instant Radiohead - Scatterbrain or Razorlight - America. I like its simplicity. The middle knob isn't needed because the mids are perfect. Just gotta turn the trimpot in my RAT to tame the mids, right now they are a bit too bosted in the RAT. Is the tremolo any good? The guy I got the amp from hasn't used the footswitch but he noticed just a few days ago that it was broken so he went to the music shop to have it replaced. Hasn't arrived yet (so I can't turn the tremolo on) but he said he'll deliver it to me. Really really nice guy. I must say the VC30 sounded quite good with his strat so I don't feel sorry for him. Okay.
Members zwtyo
how loud does the ac15 get? i'm wary of how it would compete with the whole band as far as being audible or whether i'd be able to get it loud enough. i've been wrestling with whether or not to get the ac 15 or the ac 30 for about a month and a half now. To be honest, I'm not quite sure. I haven't cranked it and I don't have a drummer. Some people say that it's darn loud for being 15 watts though but don't take my word for it. What you could do is replace the speaker. I think the stock speaker is 97db effective. An Eminence Red Fang is 103db. That'll give you 6db extra which is twice the amount of volume the AC30 has got compared to the AC15. Now of course you could go even louder with an AC30 with a new speaker but you get my point. I'm not sure if that would be enough though so make sure you ask someone for first-hand experience first.
