Members gambit
quote courtesy of looking for some creative spark.. say i have most fx types covered, not gigging, trying to start a recording project i've put off for far too long, and a dislike for boutique pedal sugestions - which do you think would be best!? 1 - Moogerfooger MURF - I've wanted the Murf for some time. i'm sure it would make me more excited to pick up the guitar, and could inspire great new ideas out of me, but it could also get me caught in the loop of endless tweaking when i need to focus and record. 2 - Squier Telecaster Custom II - i like cheap guitars that sound good, i've especially been digging tele's and this one looks good and has P-90's and a maple neck which i've never had before. also the dual vol and tone and selector switch means i'll have a kill switch guitar available to me 3 - A decent mic - I have a Line6 Toneport and i find the clean sounds acceptable for what i'll be recording, but the distortion amp sims don't cut it. i need a mic for recording stuff soon but i know very little about what's good or bad.. it'll be either a ribbon mic or a condensor. 4 - Boss RC-2 - selling my faulty RC-20 at the moment, which i haven't used since i was gigging, but instead of setting up all the recording gear i can jam over new ideas to expand them into fully-fledged songs. 5 - Several overdrive/dist/fuzz pedals - I would like to find something to match my limited selection (vox valvetone, little big muff, engl powerball) and to expand my knowledge a bit. it seems like more of a long term thing as it'd mean getting several
Members Clorox
RC-2. That thing has helped me more with songwriting than all my other pedals together.

Members HeartfeltDawn
Telecaster Custom is very nice. I took one as part exchange and sold it on but it did play pretty nicely. looking for some creative spark.. say i have most fx types covered, not gigging, trying to start a recording project i've put off for far too long, and a dislike for boutique pedal sugestions - which do you think would be best!? Y'know what? {censored} pedals. You've got FX covered. You've probably got enough guitars and amps and tools. I think it' going at it the wrong way around to think 'What extra tools do I need?' before you start doing anything. You've got the basics right so why not just start the project and then buy something when you hit the brick wall and that tool is the only thing to get you forward? Obviously, I speak as the hypocrite and as a lazy, lazy {censored}er
Members melx
{censored} loopers, FX and {censored}, if you want to get creative at home get an 8-track. edit: you have recording gear already.

Members ArrMatey
I'd go for the microphone if you're going to need to record some decent overdriven sounds. For condensers, an adk a51s will do good and it's only
Members english_bob
quote courtesy of Great, GREAT show. If your goal is to record stuff, I'd go for the mic(s) and aim to avoid being distracted by new toys. Definitely, definitely do NOT do the cheap drive pedal thing. That's a creative dry wank if ever there was one. If you fancy some low-ish budget fun with pedals, try doing some DIY kits
Members monkeyland
i would go for the mic also. although if you don't have an SM57 i would get that before getting a ribbon or condenser. no matter what i try on any guitar amp i always end up going back to my
Members gambit
thanks for the input guys. MURF got the most votes.. but a mic seems most popular. i hate shopping for mics when i know very little about them! grr. i've had an SE 2200 condensor before, and def prefer it over dynamic mics.. but a ribbon mic will be new.. different.. and from what i understand bring about a more analog-style recorded sound. ie not that expansive super-high range the condensor's spit out. i can't say i like sm57's from my experience.. they seem too 'pokey' sounding or something. maybe if a ribbon doesn't work out.. the Murf will be had if my friend buys a guitar off me.. the joy of a sustainer pickup and a behringer reverb/delay is wearing him down.. he'll buy it.. oh yes.. he'll buy it!
