GT-10 owners? Worth trading in my pedals for?

I'm getting a little tired of pedal dancing. I'm not crazy with the tones from my Pod XT either, never have been. And it's a pain in the ass to haul my pedal board with me to jam.

So I figure, why not trade it all in for a floorboard modeller - one that I can use with my Mesa for extra dirt and FX (without amp modelling), easy to haul around, and that I can also use for direct recording. Just have to set up two banks of patches, right?

So I'm thinking of replacing the following with a GT-10:

- Line 6 Pod XT

- Rocktron Hush Super C noise reduction

- Dunlop Crybaby standard

- Dano Fish & Chips EQ

- Boss CS-3 compressor/sustainer

- Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde OD/distortion

- EHX The Worm wah/phaser/tremolo/vibrato

- EHX Small Clone Chorus

- MXR Micro Amp

The only two pedals I'm thinking of keeping are the Big Muff and my TU-2. I'd only be keeping the Muff because I seriously doubt that anything digital could even come close to putting out the sound that this rotten bitch does.

I play classic rock, 90's rock, old-skool punk. Major influences for me are The Clash, Smashing Pumpkins, RHCP, Queen, Muse, Dire Straits, U2, GnR, RATM, Ozzy, Van Halen, ZZ Top... gives you a rather vague idea.

So? Could something like the GT-10 quiet down my current rig (sig), make my life easier with less pedal dancing, and help out my direct-recording and headphone-practicing needs?

If I were you, I would try out a GT-10 before giving up any of the pedals. You may discover that some of the pedals you have will sound better than the GT-10's built in effects.

I'd love to, but no one here in Hicksville has them in stock. If I order one from the local Boss dealer I HAVE to buy it. :freak:

w/ the GT-10, can you run certain efx like modulation through the loop and other fx like dirt in front of the amp? Given that you use the loop.

It's a great question, but I'm not sure if there's an easy answer, as it's such an "all or nothing" decision. You could hang out on forums that specifically discuss this (I hung out for a long time at the POD forums when I got my XTL). Can't you order a GT-10 from Guitar Center or MF and return it w/in the time allowed if you're not happy?

Definitely would work with the 4-cable method, to keep modulation and time/space FX after the preamp, just like in my current setup.

GC and MF don't deliver to Quebec for some reason, although MF does deliver to the rest of Canada. Probably because most of the Quebec population is French-speaking and would make customer service a living hell for a company based in the US. I only know of Axe Music in Canada as an online music supply store, and they charge a 25% restocking fee on returns. :freak:

I'll have a look around for some GT-10 forums though, that definitely isn't a bad idea. :)

Most accessible would probably be in Quebec City, about 700 km's from here.

road trip!!!!

:o

i would probably consider something like the voodoo lab pedal switcher and commander
they are each 220 us dollars or so, and you'd probably need 2 pedal switchers and 1 commander
thats $660, if you can, go for it.
but perhaps this isn't the best way to go.
honestly, in my opinion, you'd only end up missing your sweet EHX pedals, which no GT-10 can replace. and you probably won't get a better tube screamer on the GT-10, as the jekyll and hyde offers.
i think thats about it... a multi effects unit offers so many other things, for example, your rig will be much, much quieter, there are tons of other cool features too.
the GT-10 is a GREAT unit, i think most of us here prefer single stomp boxes, so thats why you'll get a lot of "don't buy a multieffects" comments
