Members zinzin
i'd like to buy a fender amp to have some more flexibility when recording. i have the orange tiny terror with a 1x12 vintage 30 cab, a vox pathfinder 15r mini stack w/2x10 bulldog speakers. my bandmate has a vox ac15 w/whalfedale speakers. i'd like to have a 1x12 fender or a head (i guess a pairing jensen speaker cab would be nice ...) that offers the fender clean but also some gritty, classic rock crunch tone. i once tried a fender tonemaster and its crunch was incredible beautiful! that would be the one, but my budget is just round ... 500 euro. advices please. Members mrweems
Bassman head.Princeton comes in a 1x10 but can be modded for a 1x12 not to mention a Deluxe reverb or a twin.

Members jtsbua
check out the fender super 60 1x12. its one of those red-knob models that was designed by Paul Rivera before he started his own company. I used to have one that I paired with a mesa 1x12 extension. it had a great crunch tone and you can find em on ebay for like 300-350 usually. Members mike.sartori
Here's your cheap solution - buy a Champ 600, and hook it up to your extension cab. When I hook up mine to my 1x12 greenback cab, it sounds AWESOME. You could also buy a replacement 6" speaker, for two different sounds. The entire Layla album was recorded on nothing but champs. The top one, but I'd try that vibro champ too. I didn't like it because it had some bad fake-sounding effects - I like simplicity.

Ted Webber is supposed to sell the best replacement speaker, it's like $35, and I hear it makes a huge difference. The stock speaker is a little farty sounding when you turn the volume up too much. Members Karma1
I'm very impressed with my new Fender Super Champ XD. I've owned a Blues Jr. and a 70's silverface Vibro Champ and I like the XD better than either of those. Just to sidetrack for a minute - you mentioned in your post that you have a Vox Pathfinder mini stack. I just saw one for sale today (w/ 2- 10's) and was trying to find some info on them. It's hard to tell how big it is from the pic I saw. One review I read described it as small and light weight. Do you know the dimensions or weight of it? Also any other info about it you could provide would be appreciated. Thanks.

Phil O'Keefe
The correct answer here is Princeton IMO. But which one? A SF Princeton Amp (non-verb) has stellar cleans, and with a few boost or dirt pedals should give you what you want... but it's only a 1X10. You could mod it for a 12" or use an extension cab. A Princeton Reverb would break up a little sooner by itself than a Princeton Amp, and is another possibility. But if you want the AMP to do the crunching, look for a used Princeton Reverb II, which has a switchable lead sound and a 12" speaker. No trem though. Members BmoreTele
Fender is going to be selling a Princeton Reverb reissue sometime later this year. It's apparently out in Europe and there have been several teaser ads here in the US (in a recent Vintage Guitar issue). i hope the price is reasonable, or that vintage prices go down a little. Members catsandstrats
Cheapest good option= Fender Champ + extension Cab and pedals for verb. Princeton Reverb II- middle expensive- Best Option-most expensive- Princeton Recording- that thing sounds like money, but it is expensive as heck. Whoever said it sounds bad MUST be talking about the Princeton solid state. This is probably one of the best recording amps ever put out on a production line.
