i've been an avid DD-20 w/fsu5 fan since the day it came out. Before that it was the DD-5 w/fsu5. I love the DD-20, but i realized something, with all of these other super delays coming out, i need to get one.

So my quest was on, and since i am a qualified DD-20 expert, i narrowed my search to the very best qualities of the DD-20 i wanted in my next delay pedal (look i almost just got another DD-20!). My caveats? Must have multiple subdivisions, a time display screen (with BPM and MS), and good modulation. Well the screen narrows out about 80% of delay pedals, i just don't get it, its the year 2008. Basically i was after a nice digitally pristine delay to pair with my DD-20 in the amp's efx loop

So, i pretty much knew it was going to be a nova delay but i wanted to give some other pedals a try.

I tested the DL-4 a couple of years ago, i honestly hated it, it sounded like a toy, but i can understand why so many people like it, but i don't have the patience for its reliability problems.

The echo park is actually a great offering i thought, but again the sound quality just seemed lacking.

Next was the boss space echo, which i thought i would love, but i ended up thinking it too sounded like a toy.

I also tried the H20 and the SMMH.

while i really like the SMMH, i have too many whacked out EHX pedals and another would just end up pissing me off. the eventide was out of the question, if i've learned one thing with pedals its this; never spend over 300$ on a pedal, i don't care what it is.

So i finally tested out a Nova delay yesterday.

PLugged it in, switched to the two subdivisions that are added, really liked that, great for a dual delay perfectly in synch.

Here is the kicker, dotted eighth setting modulate on 3,

hi i'm The Edge, literally

They say everywhere this thing is modeled from the TC 2290,

well it is, and you can tell The Edge uses the dotted 8th with heavy modualtion on alot of crap.

TC does have some quirks with their user interface but as far the sound quality goes, it is everything and more than i could have wanted. and i haven't even gotten into the audio tapping and presets.

The sound of the straight line modualted delays with 6 tempo types is worth the price alone. I've read the people reviewing it saying that there is a noticable difference in sound quality between this and the DD-20, they are correct, side by side the mod delay on the DD-20 is murky compared to the Nova.

I still love the DD-20 though, its functionality and quick access to every single feature, i still think its the best all around delay and it was way ahead of the game when it came out 5 and a half years ago. so there is my mini review, sorry it was so long.

I really do love the Nova, it has some of the most beautiful delays I've heard. After awhile though I found myself using it for more straightforward delays and being left wanting for more whacked-out sounds. Some of which I could get with the DD-20, but not enough for my purposes. I find that Nova into TimeFactor really does the trick, although I can sympathize with your decision not to spend over $300.

audio tapping wasn't as cool as i thought it'd be though.

I just bought a DD20. I looked at the Nova but I realized even though TC really pushes the idea, nobody talks about it at all.

How often does it glitch when you're saving?

ummm i don't know, i just kind of stopped using presets cause i only really need one delay sound with my band, so when i'm messing around at home i go to presets and {censored} around with them then. i think it may have been mostly that i didn't fully understand the interface more than an actual glitch.i think it's mostly figured out now, but on occasion i'll switch to a preset i had saved just to find something else.

Thanks for the comments, the more i play through it, it is what it is, a straight lined almost single use pedal because the straight forward sounds it makes are unreal.

I read all the reviews and the guys saying it was cold and sterile are just way way off.

I would say definately if your wanting a straight up awesome delay sound and not whacked out sounds, get it, you will not regret it. if your wanting a mixture of everything the SMMH or eventide are the winners.

i think a DMM and Nova would make a great combo.

I want a Nova Delay really badly. I think it will be a nice combo with my DMM and RV-3.

Its a great combo!:thu:

the last loop on my pedalboard goes DOD Vol/Wah ->RV-3-> DMM-> Nova Delay-> RV-5.

RV-3 + Nova= Pristine Ambiet Joy
RV-3 + DMM= Will make even the worst guitarist sound good (i should know cause i suck)
RV-5 + Any dirt=Noise Heaven.
