Members bluesmann
I ordered some preamp tubes from a internet store that say they test their tubes and guarantee's them and their "GOLD PIN" preamp tubes "hint" are the best, Their about $20 each if you add shipping. I bought 5. They only sell one brand of tube "HINT"Put them in and turned the amp on. A loud noise happened and i looked in back of the amp and the tube in V1 was flashing, A shorted tube i guess and i took it out and put one of the old ones"which were new tubes that came with the new amp" in its place. Turned the amp back on and turned the volume up a little. Now i've got a ring like a tuning fork. I now go threw each of the 4 new tubes left and replace it with one of the old ones to find out which one was causing the ring. Two bad tubes $40 out of 5 brand new tested tubes. I sent them a email explaining the problems with their so called tested tubes.a guy called me on the phone the next day and said to send them back. I waited about a week and boxed them back up but couldn't find their address so I emailed again for their address. The owner said he knew nothing about the phone called and then said they send out 500 a week and they have 2 out of 500 that are bad on average and that it would be impossible for me to get 2 bad tubes and then accused me of getting them else where. I email this dick back "check your records" dude! At this point i'm not well at all! If you truly test these tube the shorted tube would have never gotten threw fricken liar. His next email was full of name calling and then said it would be a pleasure to not ever do bussiness with me again, "I don't think you'll have to worry about that! " He also said he was a man of honor and some other bull about his con artist tube bussiness. I sent the tubes back and told him you owe me 40 bucks.I'm sure i'll never hear from him. My warning to you all is, I think its a good ideal to buy tested tubes but if they only sell one brand watch out! There's others out there i'm sure but my thought at this point is i'll pick someone that sells many brands of tubes thinking i'll have a better chance of getting a real bussiness instead of a con. I know anybody can have a good looking website and be working out of their closet which i suspect this guy with goggles might be doing. Yeah! tubes are good! but not from this a-hole. Where do you all get your tubes?

Members IRG
I also had a similar experience, though not as bad, and no name calling. I bought 5 tubes for my Traynor, and one of the tubes the pin broke off the minute I touched it every so gently. Should never have happened. They didn't really believe me, but they did replace the tube. I just didn't like the overall experience, and personally, I didn't think JJ's made any difference over what I had stock. I'll buy another brand from somewhere else next time.

No I was pissed when two of the 5 tubes they so called tested were bad. One that rings i can see maybe getting threw but the other one , no way!.They lie! they don't test those tubes. its a con job! and a rip off and now he's been exposed to many for the con artist he is. A true dealer will have many brands to pick from. Testing is blind faith on our part and we can't tell if a tubes been tested anyway. Now i know about this Con Artist and many others too. F'er owes me $
Members melx
....'tested' can mean many things..to me it means this.http://www.watfordvalves.com/aboutus.aspGuitar signal valves such as 12AX7 will be further tested for noise, microphonics and drive tested to ensure uniform output with valves coming in position matched sets.Watford valves have therefore developed a drive rating system especially for musicians. This will enable them to choose either a valve which has a high gain rating to provide maximum drive to the output valves or a valve which will take longer to distort and provide a cleaner sound. The valves under goes a series of tests at full operational conditions. Firstly a controlled burn in process to ensure perfect stability. They then under go a shock and vibration test, microphony, hum and balance test before being drive tested. The rating system runs from 150 to 300 digital points. The higher the rating the greater the gain. The beauty of this system is that we can provide sets of valves that have uniformed output and gain thus eliminating valves of different or low output to give you maximum tone.that's not the same as 'testing' them by chucking them in the back of an amp to see if they glow. I'd be interested to know how the tubes are actually tested at the supplier you are refering to.
Members melx
On their 'Harma Diamond' Valves. All the valves are tested and selected on our high plate volt tester. This rig runs the valves in real working conditions at high voltages 500 vdc plate and screen for instance for a 6L6 type. The valves under go tests for cathode heater insulation, heater continuity, gas and are matched via the quitescent current method after undergoing six shifts in bias voltage to ensure perfect curve tracking. This ensures total reliability in touring environment which is why these valves come with one of the longest warranties in the business. 6 months on Pre- amp and output valves. Not the cheapest around, but as they say....you put {censored} in, you get {censored} out.

I sent them back and i'm sure they got them this past friday. I doubt i'll ever hear a word back from them. Hopefully this thread will inform many and put a few sweat beads inside those goggles. I checked out Lord Valve but nothing is in U.S. $$$ I don't mind paying more for good quality. I might try some nos stuff if i can find it. But it all seems to be a crap shoot these dayz.
