what song(s) inspired you to buy, or want, a phaser. What are some good tunes utilizing the phaser? i just picked up a phaser and was looking for some inspiration. i enjoy playing with it, but can't find a need for it in a live setting.

I kinda have the same feeling too.

The best use, I think, is in "Paranoid Android", that little descending line in the begining.

I have more use for flanger though. I use it as a kind of filter for melody lines, sounds good and kind of synthy/metallic. Very Cure-esque.

That's surprising, what with your screen name and all.

Phaser is one of the effects i use most. Not sure how I got into the phaser but I remember encountering a small stone when I was about 14 and thinking, man, thats cool.

I had a phaser on an RP5 in high school that was part of some crazy patches. I picked up a vintage small stone and a vintage ross (which i can no longer find...) somewhere in college.

I almost always use it for chords and clean. Not for single note lines pretty much ever. Sometimes I combine it with a chorus to be more organ like. I sometimes also use it in conjunction with my wah and a delay for echoey filter sweeps.

Lots of Incubus stuff.

Lightning Crashes by Live

Use it with a trem and some dirt and play about coaxing tuneful feedback from it. Also run it after delay and listen to your repeats sweeping through the filter cycle.

Phaser is the best modulation!

i forgot about Lightning Crashes, thanks. I do enjoy the sound of a phase with dirt and delay. I got mine in this order though. rat-phaser-delay. i'll have to switch the delay and phaser to see what happens.

I use it when we play "Crawling in the Dark" by Hoobastank.

Not exactly a brain buster of a song, but the phaser sounds pretty sweet.

I actully just got rid of my chorus and just use my phase 90 on a real light tone.

I know! I love my Nano Stone, love the sound of it, but can't find a way to use it in a band context. Weird, huh?

It's easy to get corny 70's porn music sound with the phaser, you know. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

I use a small stone, mostly for clean arpeggiated stuff like Floyd's "Us and Them." Or anytime I want a dreamy sound. If I'm going to use one it must be very subtle or else it just irritates me. Although one cool sound is running a Big Muff into it with the color switch set for a big wide sweep, and you get a sound similiar to the solo on the Pumpkin's "Mayonnaise."
