Did you quote and charge for shipping up front? How much is the buyer willing to pay?

I sold the guitar with free shipping to my costs world wide but i got 7500$ for it! But this is no reason to blast 411 Euros for shipping without looking for a cheaper way!

17 kilos for a guitar? It can't be the guitar itself so are you packing it in a stupidly heavy case? I've currently got an Epi Casino cased up and packed ready for the courier to collect today to go to France and it's 10 kilos. 17 kilos seems way huge, unless you're referring to the volumetric weight, as anything sent airmail is calculated by the volumetric weight.

132 cm long would exceed some courier companies maximum length of parcel limit. Are you being charged extra for this?

agreed, in my experience domestic shipping services are a better option than any courier, a little slower, but much cheaper, and still with all the insurance you'll need.... that price almost buys the {censored}in thing it's own plane ticket...

i've never shipped in or out of germany or mexico though, so have no specific advice...

411 Euros... does that include full insurance for this monster guitar? if so, I don't think you will get much cheaper than that.

Does it say 'Hate' on it at the 12th fret? Of all the dudes in the forum, when it comes to gear that's totally distasteful, you always win! No vintage sunburst colours for you, right? :D

That 411 Euros... if you asked for full insurance of the guitar for the full value (and any buyer with an IQ above 3 should get full insurance on a $7500 guitar), then that's the reason it's so high. I know with the couriers I use to places in Europe, the rates of insurance are low so they can charge a lot more for additional insurance. It's how they make their money and it's similar in principle to computer companies and inkjet printers. They made the printers cheap but the consumables much higher. In this case, the insurance is the consumable.

Pretty much you're stuck with paying out the whole whack. On a sidenote, a few years ago my grandfather sold a cello to a player in the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. He sent it from the UK to me in Toronto and then I organised another courier from Toronto to Vancouver. The cello was sold to the orchestra member for

Dennis, you speak to the buyer and let him know that as he has 'free' delivery it is going to be the cheapest/slowest/domestic shipping method possible.

You tell him that you can UPS it, but it's going to cost

yep, i'll stick with Fedex or UPS, due they have tracking and are more reliable in small countries than other shipping methods. The amount is high, but it'll save you some headaches, drama and probably some ebay/paypal disputes. If it was a $100-200 item no problem, but a $7k guitar is a go-go.

How in the world is that ugly ass guitar worth 7500 bucks. New here in the states it would sell for 700 tops and even that is way to much for that terrible guitar.

You have the best taste in pedals and the worst in guitars.

If he/she has paid this amount for a guitar, an extra couple of hundred Euros to know that it is safe, tracked, speedy and insured should not be a big deal.

Hope this helps.
:)

I would be {censored}ing pissed if I dropped that much cash on a guitar with free shipping only to have the seller email me asking for MORE money because he didn't do his homework on shipping costs. It's entirely possible the buyer was factoring in the estimated cost of shipping when he made the decision to pay that amount.

Just eat the cost and send it man

That's kind of what I was saying, the decent way to present it is as an option to the buyer. I agree that if one offers free shipping it should definitely be honoured.
