Members chu2
I have a chance to score an older Story and Clark upright for around $300. I don't know the year, but it looks like maybe a mid-50's-mid-60's. Is it worth buying? Thanks!
Members lonelagranger
The Story and Clark pianos were popular and a good instrument. They are not a Steinway or Baldwin, but a good piano. $300.00 is a good price for an acoustic piano. The main thing about the uprights is how good a shape are the tuning pins in. In other words are they tight enough to hold a good tune for a reasonable length of time. Also check to see if the action is working properly. Play the keys and see if they all feel even. No funny noises when pressed down. The smaller uprights will have a drop action which can sometimes be problematic. If it appears to be in good shape then $300.00 is a good price. Go for it. A really good piano is very expensive. So for $300.00 don't expect a concert grand, but if it sounds good to your ears and plays well then that is all that matters. Have fun and enjoy the music. Members Pawnz
I've always liked S&C pianos. They seem to be well-built.
Members Outkaster
I agree with the above poster. Tuning pins are a big thing. Also check the soundboard on it.
