Hi folks!

I love phasers filters n the like... and after waiting a while, I've just ordered one of these bad boys:

http://www.bargeconcepts.com/mb.html

Basically it's a Meatball filter with a bunch of Barge Concepts innovations:

- fully buffered effects loop,

- support for higher supply voltages,

- variable output gain (unity - 10dB+),

- rugged aluminum enclosure that is nearly 20 square inches smaller than the original, while still providing room for the abundance of switches, rotary controls, and signal jacks.

- Active buffering has been added to all the signal ins and outs, with a variable gain (0-10 dB) control provided for the Send path of the effects loop.

- All of the op- amps in the signal path have been replaced with Burr-Brown low noise, low distortion units, and the pots have been upgraded to top quality, metal shaft Alpha pots for improved repeatability and a more consistent feel.

- The blend circuit has been upgraded with an optically-isolated expression control (yup, now there are THREE expression options!),

- a significantly improved envelope generator featuring a full wave rectifier.

Should be very nice, in line with my EP-0 phaser. I'll let you know how it gets along!

It's quite costly (early orders for $360)... but team this with, say, a Moonphaser ( http://www.moonphaser.co.uk/ ) and you have total phase-filter love for about what you'd pay for a vintage Mu-Tron with less features. If only the moonphaser had an exp jack for speed, and/or they could mod it...

Barge makes incredibly good-sounding stuff, I'm looking forward to this pedal a lot.

Thanks for the interest - yes, I have a few pics but at home (work PC right now). I'll take a new one and post it later on tonight - note that it won't have the Dice Works Epic in place yet (still waiting, as I had mine customized a bit), instead an EHX Metal Muff is squatting in its place.

I haven't heard about the percolator clone fallout. I have one. What's the deal?

essentially steve albini who is probably the best known percolator user did a video demo of the pedal, slammed it pretty badly. it certainly didn't sound like his unit in the videos, there was a lot of discussion after that about whether it was an accurate clone or not....

No interest as I already have a Lovetone Meatball. That said, I hope they do well with it.

As it concerns my Barge Concepts BP-1, I have no idea if it sounds like a given Intefax Harmonic Percolator. Steve Albini didn't think his sample BP-1 sounded like his Percolators.

Do I like the sound of my Barge Concepts BP-1? Yep, I sure do, so it passes my sound test. Whether or not it sounds like one of the original Percolators is of no interest to me. It does what it does and what it does it does well - for my needs.

cheers,

Ian
