Members drxcm
I am contemplating this: vs this: ...to replace my MOTU 828 MK 2. I was very intrigued by the TC Electronic Studio Konnekt 48, but they seem to be having huge problems getting their drivers up to speed. RME is also in the running, I would like to step up from MOTU. Metric Halo boxes are awesome.. Apparently there is a major upgrade on its way to the DSP
Members keybdwizrd
Turns out you can assign a program change to any of the 8 drum pads.... Looks like you can do the same with the two rows of buttons on the right (16 more). Thanks; good to know.

Members carbon111
let me know how quickly you can crash it. my record is a minute and a half, and that was my first experience with them.So far so good. It hasn't crashed at all - even after heavy use all weekend. This one has the latest OS installed though.I'm loving the fact that it supports both grid (read X0X) and realtime recording modes. I input the basic beat in grid then all the little touches go in realtime....nice soundset too.

The Proteus has assured me that the only reason i was able to bring it down so quickly would have been if it had an early OS, which is very likely. Members boose44
The layout of the 7000 semms to be very similar to the RM1xYah, when it was under development -- I understand it was referred to un-officially as the RM2x. At least they took out the floppy drive! (And gave it a SCSI port -- )-bruce

Members Birdienumnum
And finally and lastly but not leastly, I picked up Acoustik Piano! A brief comparison: Akoustik Piano - sounds more realistic, better for recordings that are to be published/put out there for the public in the "reel world". Pianoteq 2 - plays very expressively, better for everyday playing/writing/practice/sketches/demos. Akoustik Piano - saves music as .wav files and in a proprietary format for playback within own engine. Pianoteq 2 - saves music as .wav files with a normal and a high resolution option, and as standard MIDI files. Which means I can play some music in Pianoteq, save it as a MIDI file and import it into Logic, Finale, etc for use with their software instruments and notation. Much better! Akoustik Piano - needs a {censored}load of RAM and HD space. Pianoteq 2 - needs very little of the above but . . . needs a very fast processor. One day Pianoteq will catch up to Akoustik Piano soundwise. Heck, one day most sampling will be replaced by modeling, it's just more expressive. But yes, Akoustik Piano rocks. Especially the Steinway and the upright.

Members Marzzz
Metric Halo boxes are awesome.. Apparently there is a major upgrade on its way to the DSP My understanding is that this has already occurred- the latest ones have updated boards. Is there something else happening with them? The one thing I don't like about the Metric Halo stuff is they four inputs that are XLR connectors (only, not those XLR/TRS combos), you end up having to get quite a few adapter cables to deal with the 1/4" TRS and TR connectors with synths. Members mcnova
Hi! It's my first post, but I've been reading the KSS forum for several months now. You guys are great, and I've learned an immense amount from you so far. I'm an amateur - very amateur (I'm an economist by training and trade), but I took years of piano as a kid, and I've loved keys and synths ever since.I'd been using NI's Massive and Reaktor for a few months, but I was really GASsing for a true hardware synth. I wanted something that I could grow into without getting too overwhelmed at first - also not too expensive. After reading reviews and forum threads and spending some time at my local GC, I decided on the Roland SH-201.It arrived the other day, and I have been having a blast. I'm amazed at how quickly I was able to start designing my own sounds. I'm waiting for the initial infatuation to wear off so that I can really dig in and learn this thing inside-out.It was a payment from my wife for doing a software project for her. She understands incentives (she's an economist, too). Thanks to all of you who have posted about the SH-201!

Members ElectricPuppy
Beware: buying musical equipment is an addiction. So I've discovered. I almost placed a bid on a K5000S rack this morning but then thought, no, I need to at least get delivery of the things I've bought before I go spending more money.
