Where do you put loopers in your signal chain...

My dd-20s looping sucks pretty much

actaully coming to think about it, i spose it would have to go at the end due to what its looping, and its gotta loop everything

End is usually the best place, though you can get experimental sounds by putting in other places.

 

ie before distortion, delay or modulation.

The usual is to put it last, but I seem to be in a minority in that I generally place loopers towards the front of my chain...

 

usually I'll have dirt -> LOOPER -> delay/mod/reverb

 

I like to build up loops and then run that through my effects.

 

This is what works for me - i guess it all boils down to what kind of loops you're making.

 

I gave these examples in a recent thread on a similar topic:

 

I like to have a loop running and then kick on an effect (e.g. tremolo) to process everything...

or have a loop+guitar running through a big reverb/delay and then turn the reverb/delay OFF so everything is suddenly really dry...

 

I find doing this sort of thing allows me to create dramatic, dynamic effects.

Yea that ones thing I don't like though I'm using my dd-20 for looping and I don't like that whatever effect I turn on/off alters the already recorded sound

So would I put it after distortion and before everything else to keep the recorded sound wet but be able to use a different effect ?

Put it after everything else and you can record whatever you are playing at that time. Delay, Chorus, dirt etc... .

I usually have one before some effects so I can manipulate the loop and have another looper at the end of the chain so I can re-loop the processed loop. loop loop de doop poop
