Are you worried about your job? Not really.

Ability to pay rent or mortgage?Yeah, prepared well for that.

Your retirement / 401k? Down but still solid. Meh.

Are you putting off purchases? I'm mainly putting off purchases because my studio is stuffed. I don't have room for anything else, frankly.

Is it altering your income directly from music? Income from music? What's that. :p Actually, that's more dependent on whether I re-enter the cover band scene.

Are you worried about a prolonged recession? Not really.

Are you worried about your job? Nope.

Ability to pay rent or mortgage? I pay very little rent, so nope.

Your retirement / 401k? Not worried.

Are you putting off purchases? Until I get my next paycheck, yes ;)

Is it altering your income directly from music? Nope, I have very little income from music anyways.

Are you worried about a prolonged recession? I'm a little worried, yes.

Are you worried about your job? A little, but so far, things are looking ok.

Ability to pay rent or mortgage? No problem here. I have money saved.

Your retirement / 401k? Worst that can happen is my retirement will be cremation instead of a casket...

Are you putting off purchases? Not really, got a synth coming, will sell a couple others, and then I'll keep the setup stable for a while (assuming I actually like the new synth)

Is it altering your income directly from music? I see a 20% decline... well, 20% of zero is zero. ;)

Are you worried about a prolonged recession? Always. If I lose my job, I often have trouble finding another.

Are you worried about your job?No, was laid off last October and decided to go back to school, while I qualified for extended benefits to do so.

Ability to pay rent or mortgage? No worries, while I was working my wife went to school and got her RN, her job is secure and makes good money. Our mortgage is modest

Your retirement / 401k?WHAT 401k? Could never afford to contribute to it. Will start next year

Are you putting off purchases? Not really, my seasonal side business is BOOMING (Yeah you heard me, BOOMING!) this year and can barely keep up.

Is it altering your income directly from music? Not at all, in fact it's doubling. My Wife has a successful wedding band, and I just became a member therefore doubling what we take home.

Are you worried about a prolonged recession?A little, but not much. We're doing OK on one salary and side work. I'm hoping by next summer things will be on the upswing when I start looking for a job with new degree in hand

On a side note I REALLY wish the news would stop with all the doom and gloom. If nothing else they are creating a self fulfilling prophecy by scaring the hell out of everyone into hording their cash, thus creating a slowdown.

Personally I think it's a distraction so the government is allowed to do whatever they want and people will LET them in order to "Save us". Nevermind that they are fundamentally restructuring parts of the government in the process. Whether that's a bad thing time will tell.

I guess it really comes down to do you trust the government? My answer is NO, and only until they are caught red handed do they do the "Right Thing".

Are you worried about your job? Worried about finding one, yes. Search hasn't been going as well as I'd hoped so far.

Ability to pay rent or mortgage? Somewhat... I have some money that was saved in preparation for my recent move but I'm trying not to let them bottom out.

Your retirement / 401k? Nope, don't have one.

Are you putting off purchases? Yup, but mostly because I need to give more priority to the essentials.

Is it altering your income directly from music? Nope - strictly a hobbyist.

Are you worried about a prolonged recession? To a certain degree, yes.

edit: post count 606 :p

I could lose my job at anytime so I've been looking with no luck for 7 months. It's no longer a question of what do I have left after I pay my bills but what bill am I not going to pay. Sucks. In two years all will be better though. I have two children in daycare and it's crazy expensive; nearly $600 a week.

Are you worried about your job? No. Though business has slowed quite a bit.

Ability to pay rent or mortgage? My monthly mortgage payment is affordable, so I don't foresee a problem there. Thankfully I bought my home in 95 before housing costs went through the roof.

Your retirement / 401k? Don't have a 401K. I think this is a salient lesson for those that do, however, in the artificiality and caprice of the stock market.

Are you putting off purchases? Yes and no. I've been buying up used gear here and there on CL. I'm not planning any major new gear purchases in the near future. Maybe as soon as I see a Motif ES for under a grand I'll replace my Motif 8.

Is it altering your income directly from music? I no longer make music for a living, which means I can now simply enjoy it. Friends of mine who play live have reported a downturn in the number of people going out to hear live music, though.

Are you worried about a prolonged recession? I'm not really worried about it, though it may happen. Recessions are actually healthy in the long run. Any economy as wealthy and volatile as ours is bound to become fat and lazy because of a tendency toward excess and "getting rich quickly". Recessions are a way to trim the fat and get back to fiscal responsibility.

Are you worried about your job? Yes, I just received notice my company is laying me off. Now I have to go through the resume sending and interviewing process all over again. Very very stressful.

Ability to pay rent or mortgage? Yes. Still can but it will be tight.

Your retirement / 401k? Down by a lot from last year. I don't intend to bank on it until another 30 years.

Are you putting off purchases? Yes, no new purchases in the last 8 months and am working with what I currently own. I also have a new hobby which is now fishkeeping...it's a lot cheaper and I get relaxation from watching the fishies swim around.

Is it altering your income directly from music? I never made a dime on selling music aside for a couple of friends' wedding gigs a year.

Are you worried about a prolonged recession? Yes. This affects us both monetarily as well as psychologically.

The new economy is treating me very well. Sinners from everywhere seek my advice and counsel on getting back on the righteous path. I point out to them their former wicked ways (such as buying junk on the Internet), yell at them for not heeding to the commands of the Lord, and then I get to take money from them. It's a pretty good deal for me, since it means either following the righteous path or face the boiling pits. Hard times and recessions usually brings out the guilt, regret, and need for salvation out of my clients.

I'm more concerned about how the economy will reduce the quality of new gear. Most new stuff is cheaply built already. Grumble.

That's a worry but it's not just the economy affecting this. People don't want to pay extra for extra quality in material or workmanship...this is one of the main reasons chassis are mainly plastic now and the quality of keybeds is deteriorating. :(

Most manufacturers will pick a price point and build to that rather than letting the features of the instrument itself dictate cost. This is nothing new...so I'll pipe down now... :blah:

Are you worried about your job? I work in sales and marketing... I'm ALWAYS worried about my job. 0% job security. In terms of my company, however, we're doing so, so. Cash reserves are modest, and we've been able to turn a profit the first two Q's of 2008. However since June... the economy has not been so kind. My territory is down 22% from goal and 13% from last year at this time.

My wife on the other hand works in consulting. They just lost their largest account directly due to this mess... they represented 10% of the company's project revenue in 2009. They've stopped all company travel below the executive level. She smells a layoff coming. We've both been working for the same compan's over 4 years. Wouldn't it be a bummer if we both got the axe on the same day.

Ability to pay rent or mortgage? My mortgage is just fine... as long as we have jobs... our heating oil and electric are not. Our utilities have skyrocketed.

Your retirement / 401k? Lost 21% YTD... not worried... I'll be working until I'm 90 anyway.

Are you putting off purchases? Yup...In fact I'm selling some to eliminate some debt.

Is it altering your income directly from music? Yes and no... we're not seeing things slow down in terms of new clubs contacting us for bookings, but some existing gigs have stopped. But I'm wondering how much longer are bars going to shell out near wedding pay for a bands if this crisis gets much worse.

Are you worried about a prolonged recession? Nope. I'm more worried about the gov't making things worse than they are or even need to be. I have issues with both candidates... at at this point.... unless less they truly let the legs kick out from underneath the table... everyone is a socialist.

God, I wish you could actually find quality workmanship. It just doesn't seem to be an option.
