w00t! New pedal day. I traded a Paul Cochrane TIM for a Barber Burn Unit EQ. I wanted something a little more distortiony, and he wanted something lighter in its crunchiness.

Unfortunately, it arrived a little late for me to test tonight, but tomorrow, the amp shall crank. Oh, yes it will.

I have been interested in the Barber dirt pedals for some time. I liked the sound on the YouTube videos. I had the TIM in the chain boosting the clean into the de Lisle Fuzz (I love's me some melodic fuzz!), but I discovered my extra EQ pedal was able to do the same thing. The overdrive into distortion on the TIM is great, very pleasant, not at all raunchy or rude...it is a gentleman's overdrive.

This trade offer came up so I jumped on it. The price on the Barber pedals is a little high for my slush fund, I so I figured I would end up with the Small Fry maybe by Christmas. Burn, baby, burn!

The Burn Unit EQ is my favourite overdrive pedal. It doesnt get any hype so I think most guitar players over look it. I have kept it over a lot of the more hyped dirt boxes people around here drool over (Timmy, Screwdriver, eternity). It is incredibly flexible but also clear and articulate, it has been on my board for about 3 years now and its not going anywhere...

If the Burn Unit was made in Sweden and cost twice as much, it would probably be more in demand!

Wouldn't be surprised if someone tried to "Freekish Blue" it and tried to sell it for much more dough as the latest and greatest dirt pedal!

add a 6 month wait period and these would cost $500+

I ran my lap steel through it and it gives the lap git a nice tone. It is a very different drive pedal than I am used to operating. The controls of Dynamics, Tone and Burn are really different than the usual Gain/Drive/Level of some dirt pedals. Similar purpose, yes, but different result.

The Dynamics allows you to dial in the amount of compression you want, which is the key.

It's a pretty versatile pedal and the best part is that it stacks well with other dirt.

I'm running it at the end of the dirt chain right now

I finally had the chance to crank up the volumes and such between the lap git and tube amp. The BBU has nice distortion to it, which I imagine might even be a lot more fun if I put in a different tube than the existing 6L6.
