play with other musicians

play a new instrument

stop playing for a month

go on a vision quest

make love to a beautiful woman

start a fire

shave your head

carry many stones

put new strings on your guitar

buy a bigger belt buckle

steal some corndogs

leave on a jet plane

In the number of years I've been on this forum, this is the most sensical thing robo has ever said.

All I want to do anymore is teach myself Jobim bossas and play cliche pentatonic fuzzy stoner riffs. Nothing has worked. Maybe that's not bad. Maybe I need to just stop trying to write, because it's
obviously not coming naturally to me. What the {censored} happened to me?

There's more hope for you than the typical person that starts this type of thread - e.g. "I am stuck in a rut... I play blooze.."

Seriously, though, alternate tunings and learning slide are some good pieces of advice - but go your own way. :thu:

As above - if you want to get out of a musical rut, get out of your genre - in other words play some new styles. 2nd definitely practice scales, etc. For me I get quite bored while doing the technical stuff and suddenly out pops a tune. I never think up tunes they just happen. 3rd suggestion record what you are doing, with a mike, or a looper.
