Members mhuxtable
That is actually really nice. Stock? How are the pickups? Oh no way hahaha. Totally modified. Locking staggered tuners, new pickguard. Totally gutted the electronics....custom wound P90s, new pots, jack, switch, wired up with 2 volumes, no tone. The sound is so in your face. Members jhamnett
Take a look at the PRS SE Soapbar guitars as well. Really sweet and you can snag one used from $350-$450.
Members mlabbee
Right. Thick neck? Most of the reviews I've read said it was pretty thin, 60s style. The 50s was supposedly quite thick. My tele has a pretty thick neck though, so I'm used to it, like it. Thick for me - I like really thin necks, though, so don't go by my review. They look really good in person, too - much better than in the pics. They have a little relic'ing going on, too - not enough to look silly, though. Members GreaserMatt
Dude(s), these tributes are f'n awesome; I prefer the 60s neck over the 50s, even though the 50s isn't like what a real 50s neck is/was; just a tad thicker than the 60s, thats all... Members crohny
I'm gassing for both a tele, and something with p-90s. I have a good tele, so maybe getting another one is redundant. There aren't many shapes of guitars I like with P-90s though. A Les Paul Studio with p-90s is one I do like, the Epiphone '56 Goldtop is nice too, not sure how the pickups are in it, compared to the Gibson P-90s. Anything else that is reasonably priced? Like this finish, or ugly? Also in black, but I already own a black LP Cherry burst isn't bad either: i have the all white one. without the pick guard its lovely. solid guitar for the price. the stock pups are awesome as well. Members Bricks & Bones
Anywhere from about $1250 to $2500 depending on finish and condition. Those are really nice too - basically a Deluxe with P-90s and an ebony fretboard.Hmmm, not as much as I was expecting. If only I lived in USA and could actually try a few
Members Loobs
Btw, I can't recommend putting Lollar P90s enough into any P90 guitar you may buy. The improvement is amazing. They just sound soooo good. That being said the Gibson P-90 that was in my guitar (in the neck) was pretty raunchy. Fwiw I think mid 90s Gibsons are much nicer guitars than what they are putting out now. I played a 50s Tribute Les Paul and it felt really cookie-cutter and rough, not in a good way. Felt poorly/cheaply finished.

I do think they seem to vary widely in terms of quality, so maybe you played a poor one. Is yours a Gibson Special LP (flat top) or a Studio with a carved top? The goldtop Tributes were my favorite of the bunch, seem hard to find now. I've seen a few on ebay, most of them going for more than msrp now. I believe a limited run, with the white, black and cherryburst being left in stock, although I've only checked a couple of dealers.

I played a couple, they both seemed a little cheaply made, unfortunately. I think unless you spend more on Gibson their cheaper models feel very slapdash. It felt kinda raw...didn't sound particularly great. That could've been the amp though - it was a Marshall JVM I think...but yeah... Mine's a flat top. It's '96/97 I think. Members captions87
not to threadjack, but this is p90 related. anyone tried the new gibson sg 60's tributes, and if so, how do they compare to the sg classics that were out a year or two ago. seems like the only change (cosmetically, anyways) is a different pickguard. I currently have an Epi John Lennon Casino, the "inspired by" model. makes me not want to even go near another guitar, but a little part of me wants that p90 goodness in a solid body.
