I am playing a Christmas party tonight, and can only think of a few Christmas songs.

The Christmas Song

Sleigh Ride

Walking in a Winter Wonderland

Christmas Time is Here (Peanuts)

White Christmas

Silver Bells

Have Yourself a Hari Little Krishna

I'll Be Home for Christmas

Rudolph/Jingle Bells/Santa Claus is Coming to Town

and of course, the more hymn-like (Silent Night etc)

What would you play?

I am typing this from the Hotel Baker, in St. Charles, Illinois, where I am playing a solo keyboard gig at a corporate holiday dinner party, where I've been playing every frickin' Christmas song known to man.

(Yes, I brought my laptop to entertain myself on breaks, and the hotel has free wi-fi.)

When not playing myself, I am entertaining the dinner guests with Christmas music from Harry Connick, Jr., Tony Bennett, and Ella Fitzgerald via my iPod.

I love Christmas.

Time for another Heineken.

Pretty good list.

Given my taste, I would add a couple of Elton John numbers:

Ho! Ho! Ho! (Who'd Be A Turkey At Christmas)

Step Into Christmas

and maybe throw in:

Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree

Jingle Bell Rock

No, it wasn't a bad gig, actually.

The party was in this gorgeous room at this hotel, which was just a beautful little place. A totally restored vintage 1920's hotel sitting right on the Fox River, with lots of fantastic woodwork, beautiful paintings, and tasteful holiday decorations. The guests were really nice (although I'd been hoping for more younger women all dressed up for the company bash), and the bartender went out of his way to make sure I was taken care of in terms of drinks. And the valet guy lent a hand, helping me move my stuff in and out of the hotel. Life is good!

Some religious Christmas music is beautiful: Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring / O Holy Night / O come, O come Immanuel, many others. Secular music of the holidays can also be beautiful: I'll Be Home for Christmas / White Christmas, etc, and a lot of it is just fun: Rudolph / Frosty / Winter Wonderland. I love playing this stuff even though it is far from the type of stuff I play most of the year.
