Members Blakemore Effects
Just curious if any of you other Small Stone users use the color switch? Personally, I leave mine off all the time. Just curious how many do and don't use it.
Members THeLoveGun
glad to pop the cherry. I recall loving both, but for specific purposes.Color is on when I set it slow.midway point to 60% I like it off. Wonky footswitch though, but it was ethereal when paired with the Echo Park. Members gambit
I'm pretty much in the shallow mode ('off' i guess?) all of the time. I would only ever use the deep mode if i wanted my signal to drop out massively at the trough of each phase cycle.. So pretty much useless, unless i have it in a dry/wet bypass looper. Edit: i did a dual-stone, parallel, stereo, bi-phasing video recently.. Might give you some ideas? [video=youtube;1PGchW3SM2M]
Members woolyh
I usually leave it on, sounds better on the slow parts ;p That thick feedback sound is what the Small Stone is all about for me, no other phaser can compete
Members IRG
I use both, why not, that's what it's there for. i don't get much of a volume drop with either mode, but it's a newer classic model, which I think helps. Older ones seemed to have a worse volume drop.
Members JRBain
I never use it. To be honest, I'd rather it be the opposite; if ever I want a different sound, I want more subtlety, not less. But Analog Man mods will sort that... Members RoboPimp
speed minimum, color switch on, OD in front of small stone = epic. I abused that setting way too much at last nights gig. then switched color off and set speed around 1-2 oclock or so for some skanky reggae
Members arthurdent'd
I wish the Small Stone had a depth pot, mine has a big volume drop.

Members mhuxtable
When I had one, it was always on.
Members Fender&EHX4ever
I only bump up the regeneration for a couple of occasions... When playing a fuzz melody. When playing into long delays for some psychedelic atmospherics. For standard clean/OD rhythm duties, I prefer the subtle hazy swirl of the color switch off. Members AluminumFalcon
90% of the time mine is off. I think it's because I'm bothered that there is a volume drop with that switch engaged. Maybe it's time to mod mine.
Members Poltergeist
off, but sometimes i turn it on because i place the SS after dirt in my chain and when a dirt pedal is turned on before it, it begins to oscillate. sounds awesome. Members RoboPimp
I think a lot of the "volume drop" is the nature of the beast. Depending where in the sweep the phase is your volume will be affected. Make the sweep slow enough and you'll have large areas where the volume is less than unity. Kind of like complaining that a tremolo has these constant rhythmic volume drops.
Members THeLoveGun
how does the nano compare? not so warm sounding. (you really have to own a SS to "know" this for sure)kinda like eating Quizznos then trying a Subway sub
Members ibentmywookie
I've never used a Small Stone but I have a circuit board of one from the 70's that I plan on rehousing. I think I might wire the colour switch as a footswitch.

Members Blakemore Effects
i bet this is market research. not gonna answer. I'd say half curiosity, half market research. I was debating building a Small Stone type phaser, and I realized I never touch the color switch. Just thought it would be curious to see if anyone else uses it. Members Taylor.
In case it IS market research, I used the color switch at slow rates and switched it off for faster rates when I had a Small Stone.
Members Mind_Riot89
Colour switch down for fast and slow rates. I OCCASIONALLY (very rarely) use the switch up but this is unusual for me.
Members 100 dollar cars
i feel the need to switch between the two. sometimes the color off side doesn't quite get the funk right, and i prefer it on with dirt. if i'm playing clean and i want a phase that isn't too gaudy i turn it off. its a black russian stone, by the way.
