Anyone else having sleep problems?

Ugh, why am I awake? It's like 6:30 AM here and I've been up since about 11 AM yesterday. My sleep schedule is beyond {censored}ed, I wouldn't even say I have one anymore. Anyone else here have or have had chronic sleep issues? What'd you do to fix it? I've tried walking, running, cleaning (yeah I was that desperate), and obviously just laying down. I have prescriptions for Ativan and Ambien, but the Ativan is something I really don't want to use unless I really need it and I'm pretty terrified to take the Ambien (har har) so that doesn't really help me.

I work graveyard shift, so I don't really have a set or fixed sleep schedule. If I have nothing going on in the mornings, I try to crash around 7am and get up between 2-3pm. On my days off I usually just stay up all day and sleep at night, but it depends on what plans I have. For example it's 4am and I have stuff to do tomorrow and should be asleep, but I'm not. Oh well.

Also sleeping during the day sucks! I usually only have maybe 4-5 hours of uninterrupted sleep daily. I've been thinking about getting something to put me out so I sleep better, but with all the noise outside it probably won't do much for me.

I have this problem somewhat frequently. Spent a year as an insomniac in the past, plus I work nights now. Day sleepers: the blackout curtain/horizontal blind combo is worth its weight in gold.

Anyway, I never got into medication for it (unless chasing Robitussin with Nyquil counts, but I couldn't recommend it anyway) but if you've got a prescription for Ambien, I'd consider giving it a whirl.

The thing that helps me is ambient sound, either through music or keeping a television on. Not at normal volume... just enough so you are aware of its presence. Absolute silence has lead to racing thoughts for me, and good luck sleeping through that {censored}. When I have some sound around, it forces me to think abstractly about what I'm not seeing or mentally separate track elements, etc.

I'm having a really weird sleep pattern issue because I live with three other people. There is no point at which someone is not asleep, either because they have become nocturnal, or I have started to get up early. there was a single hour that I was able to play guitar yesterday before someone was asleep in the house again.

This might sound ridiculous, but I kinda rely on it: there are LOADS of videos on youtube designed to relax people and they help me sleep. Put some unobtrusive headphones on, the volume quite low and just chill out. They're generally made to induce 'head tingles' into people that get them (ASMR) but loads of people just use them to relax.

e.g.:

Obviously not going to be for everybody but it's something to try.
