Augusta National went from 6800 yds in 1940 to 7445 today - 645 yards longer. That's the equivalent of adding two extra holes to the course. The average score for the champions have gotten lower and lower each decade despite attempts by Augusta to lengthen the course after each technical advance (see Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods' effects on it's design after their wins).

 

Yeah, the equipment doesn't matter. lol

I didn't say equipment didn't matter, it's a small part of the equation.
