Washing machine is the best after you have a few other albums by them. i feel on its own your cant see what they do so well on that one with putting their vibe together and producing their greatest songs and recorded effort on that album. Unwind is pretty much a perfect song.

I would start with Sister.

Love the Rythm fuzz on Rats on Rather Ripped

I'll admit that Murray Street and NYC Ghosts & Flowers are the only two albums of theirs that I don't own on a physical format. I do have them on my iPod, but I guess I never developed any sort of personal connection with them.

Rather Ripped is a killer record, especially love all Kim's songs. All the guys saying "Washing Machine" are right on the money. That was my first bought Sonic Youth album, I've only been into their discography for about 5-6 years but already got a good collection of LP's & cds. Especially love Sister (heavenly guitar tones) and Daydream Nation is my favorite hands down. Without Sonic Youth I don't know if I'd even be playing guitar today.

I'm a pretty big SY fan, but one of the worst things I've ever seen was a Thurston solo performance in thhe late 90's I love a lot of their records and am kind of surprised that so many of you seem to rate Goo so poorly. I don't think it is their best, but I love that it is there most "pop". One of the things that makes SY interesting to me is that they do have a pop sensibility.
