Members Johansolo
so technical/circuit aspects aside... does anyone own both? or use 2 on their board? any preference over one or the other?
Members Poltergeist
the correct answer is both. i love both, and the difference between them is very big, to my ears. the Superfuzz almost sounds like a regular fuzz next to the Shin-ei Companion, because the Companion is a total one-trick pony that completely crushes your signal without mercy, while the Superfuzz is more dynamic sounding, more versatyle, and reacts better to your guitar settings and your playing dynamics, and is capable of more "normal" tones. normal is not in the Companions' lexicon at all, it is filthy, wrong, mean, proud of it and unwilling to cooperate. i prefer the Shin-ei with bass and the Superfuzz with guitar, to keep it short. Members hangwire
There is a builder than makes both in 1 box FYI

Members The Interceptor
I have the Wattson FY-6. It's pretty wild, not at all subtle. I really dig it for that early Fu Manchu sounds in the tone 2 setting (e.g. Saturn III). The other. The setting on tone 1 is nice for the octave up sounds. I find you can also get a little bit of octave up in tone 2 as well.

Members H.P. Lovecraft
FY-2 is JAMC chaisaw rasp. Think early '60s Mosrite kinda of tones. FY-6 is SuperFuzz goodness. Deep, fuzzy with just a hint of Octave. I prefer the FY-6 but I can see the merits of having both on a board.

That's a pedal for another day :-) The aim of the game with this one was to have both effects in one original style enclosure using the same controls, so you get all the FY2/6 sounds in a single pedal. A dual pedal would be interesting, but I can't imagine how evil an FY-2 and FY-6 would sound cascaded. I guess you'd put the FY-6 first, as at least that one can clean up to sound more like a ring mod.

Members Poltergeist
yeah, can't imagine having the Companion first, even though i don't have both at home right now. i always use the dirt pedals from lowest to higher gain, sounds better that way too me, and far more dynamic.
