Members RockDaJoJo
First, just to let you know the Double Muff isn't a Big Muff variant, EHX just likes to throw the word muff around. Second, the Big Muff Tone/Wicker is the best bang for the buck with the biggest versatility to price ratio.
Members danfromdsf
I've never really liked that Big Muff sound. Every once in a while, I hear it and like it, but I just never thought I'd have a reason to buy one. With that said, I got a BM w/TW two days ago (thanks IRG!) and I'm absolutely in love with it. With the tone switch off, you basically get all your mids back, and it becomes exactly the fuzz I've been looking for. Vote #2 for the Tone Wicker. Members dap99
I have a BYOC mff clone that I modded w/ the Mids mod (flat, boost, scooped) and the 'Creamy Dreamer' mod. I love that pedal! Wehn I first built it, it didn't get a lot of use in the band I was in at that time. But the last band I was in, I used it all the time. That and my BYOC 5 knob comp for some sweet synthy leads. But w/ the gain all the way down, it's good for some crunchy chordage.
Members Jisatsu
Muff Prawn Good Ole' Version 7 green big muff. I've owned the 90's black big muff, the early 2000 NYC reissue muff (both have died horrible deaths due to being poorly made and not really great sounding), and also the newer black big muff. To be honest, the new black big muff sounds the same as the V7 green muff when recorded. But you can definately hear the differences in person. I got such a good deal on my green big muff, and the newer black one was a gift from the in laws, so I won't be getting rid of them any time soon. I do plan on picking up a civil war and red army muff in the future.

Question re the post 2 post above...why is that model called the muff prawn???

Members meelosh123
I like the sound of the new black big muff too but it's too huge. Anyone know if the tonewicker muff is smaller? Stores around here don't carry it. Can the tonewicker muff cop black muff tones and then some?

It's definitely smaller, same size as the little big muff IIRC

Members blueduck577
I am on a quest for Smashing Pumpkins tone as well as Gilmour tone and I want to make two separate muffs for each one lol I was trying to make this a versatile yet gilmourish muff. it sounds awesome. basically the mids knob is the AMZ presence control, the two top toggles are wicker and tone bypass, and the bottom toggle is what I call the splat control, it makes the first transistor clip asymmetrically when hit hard. note that the input cap is backwards on the schematic. oops. the guts are also completely different, the only original parts are most of the resistors. it's probably easier for me to just post a schematic. the blue components are what differ from the stock NYC muff. red components are the external controls i've added.
