Members Starrman Posted October 1, 2005 Members Posted October 1, 2005 Hi Everyone... I got a brand new Mesa Boogie Mk 1 re-issue.... It sounds to clean....Even when I use a over-drive it does not break up enough.....It came with (Chinese) 6L6's. I was thinking of trying some 5881's instead.... Any recommendations? I was considering the new Tunsol 5881's? Anyone try them? What else do you think would be a good choice? I put a Mullard in the first pre-amp spot, it helped a little....Please advise...Thanks.
Members potaetoes Posted October 1, 2005 Members Posted October 1, 2005 changing tubes isn't really going to give you much more gain... they just change the timbre and texture a bit. make sure you have volume 1 and 2 *both* turned up high, and make sure you're using input 1. if you plug into input 2, it bypasses the high-gain part of the preamp and doesn't have much distortion.
Members Starrman Posted October 1, 2005 Author Members Posted October 1, 2005 I tried both inputs....1 is to distortetd, and 2 is to clean...I tried setting the input volumes higher, just made it muddy.....Took away all the clean....Thanks for the respomse...If anyone else has any comments, please advise....
