I have a 12 yr old cousin that is kinda shorter and smaller than your normal 12yr old. More like the size of a regular 9 yr old. Should I get him a full scale or 3/4 and anything under $150 that you guys can recomend?

Anything cheap either 3/4 or full size?

Later on if he gets good I can;t wait to buy him a gibson

Thanks!

I would go for the SX SST62 Short Scale at www.rondomusic.com. One of my guitar students has one. It's a solid guitar. It plays good, sounds good, and came with a good setup.

The music store that I work at sells Fender's Strat Junior for over $400. Each one that we get is totally out of whack. They play bad, they sound bad, and they never come with a good setup. And of course, non of the sales people are ever going to set it up.

The SX plays better, sounds better, and should come with a better setup. And it only costs $79 plus shipping.

Although this lad is small, I'd still suggest getting him a normal size guitar that he can grow into over the next 5 - ?? years. Something cheap but decent to play and light to go along with a Fender Frontman 15R or like amp.

Perhaps an Agile Valkyre? (I would have loved an SG copy when I was that age)

Used MIM Strat?
