Members wanky Posted October 13, 2005 Members Posted October 13, 2005 i know u need tape echo and flange, how do u get the tone and gain settings from a 5150? I think he used a modded jcm800 2203 or some modded marshall, cuase when he recorded it there were no 5150s back then, but im sure the eruption tone is achevable from a 5150, my question is how, tell me where to turn each know and how much volume i need to achiave it? thanx
Members 4nkam Posted October 13, 2005 Members Posted October 13, 2005 Forget the 5150s, MArshalls, Mojaves....get the Esteban amp. It gets the Metallica AND Van Halen tone Have you tried Ed's 5150 settings? MJ
Members vlad Posted October 13, 2005 Members Posted October 13, 2005 As Bob Savage would say... That's unpossible...

Umm the volume knob has a huge impact on tone, why do think they created things called power brakes aand attenuators?
Members cobrahead1030 Posted October 13, 2005 Members Posted October 13, 2005 try the lead channel pre gain around 4bass around 4mids around 6-7treble around 5-6resonance around 4presence around 6-7 volume as loud as you can stand that got pretty close to a VH tone with my 5150 head, of course the cab/speakers you're using could make a difference too...i tried an mxr eq pedal with a slight high end cut, and mid boost, which helped thicken the lead tone up just a bit

I use the combo though, sounds different than the head to my ears. What i do is hook it up to a 4x12 Marshall cab with Greenbacks. The cab with the 25 watters really changes the tone around compared to the Sheffields. There's a VH I tone clip i recorded at the top of my signature if you want to check it out. The reverb setting is different than on Eruption but if you added some more reverb, delay, and a little Phase 90 here and there i'm guessing it would probably sound great for that. Here's the settings i used (remember this is a combo, the head will most likely sound much different): Lead Pre - 5 1/2, Bass - 5 1/2, Mid - just a hair before 4, High - 0 1/2, Resonance - 5 1/2, Presence - hair above 8. High gain input. Seymour Duncan 59 pickup.
