Members Eugayle
I am currently the proud owner of a Jsx.For some reason I got a hard-on for a 6505+ because of all positive things I hear. Are these amps voiced differently enough that it would be worth owning both?Buy the way.I have an amp fetish. Members TheDirtyCat
Yes i think so. The 6505 has a much better for metal stuff unlike the jsx that just seems to be good at lots of different things. The 6505 is probably worth having just to play some really heavy stuff on ! I played through a 5150 II for a couple of years before getting my JSX. I actually traded my 5150 II for the JSX so that should tell you something. The 5150 II/6505+ is a much more raw, in your face amp than the JSX. Every tone the 5150 II produces has a aggresive edge to it. It`s definately voiced more to the metal end of the spectrum. The voicing has a distinct upper mids thing going. I`ve never heard an amp that cuts as well as the 5150 II. I think the 5150 II/6505+ are killer, killer amps. As you know the JSX is more subtle. Easily able to do high gain metal, but with more finess and distinction. If you havn`t tried 6L6`s in your JSX, you should. 6L6`s would give the amp more of a modern metal voicing. Members wanky
definitly, i like the 6505/6505+ much more than the jsx, with no offense to anyone who likes jsx's, its a good amp simply with a different sound than what suits me, i just think 6505s grind much better, are fizzier and have more present, aggressive tone
Members RyanC
I had a 5150 II and a JSX and decided to keep one and sell one. I kept the JSX. Not quite as aggressive of tone or quite as much grind as the 5150, but still MORE than enough gain for anything I would ever want to do, plus much more flexible with 3 channels and a great clean channel which the 5150's don't have. I also have the 6l6's in my JSX and LOVE the amp!
Members Pure_Metal
ahh im stuck at this road to, 6505+ or the jsx, its hard to decide, its either all out metal with the 6506+ or the jsx which can come close to it but not close enough but you've got the good clean channel to compensate...ahh help me

Members Puddlegum
I think the JSX is just an all around better amp. I don't see why anybody would need more gain then what the JSX has to offer. That thing can knock a building over. Plus, the clean is just so much better and smoother then a 5150/6505. The versatility alone makes the JSX trump the 5150/6505.

With a boost the JSX's crunch channel can sound very agressive but still not as agressive as a 5150. By giving that up though you have an amp that will cover a ton of ground very, very well and one of the best lead tones I have ever played thru. Really can't go wrong with either amp. Eric This is an old post. The ironic thing is that Baz got rid of the JSX and is now back playing a 5150.

Members MusicIsTheTruth
I owned a JSX for many months. Had absolutely no problem trading it for a Dual Rectifier. The JSX's distortion is very thin sounding compared to the 5150. I actually used a JSX to record my last band's cd and the engineer made me come in and redo the tracks on a Triple Rectifier cause the JSX was getting drowned out by the other guitarist who happened to use a 5150. Then again it all depends on what you're doing. But in my opinion, 6505+ owns the JSX (with the exception of the clean channel, but it's not anything that amazing anyways). Members Dmantis
In my opnion, the JSX is a much better all around amp. the 6505 is good for metal and doesn't have any cleans. The JSX is like a much more refined model with a clearer 2 gain channels. It's also less noisy
Members MusicIsTheTruth
Well it is more versatile, i'll definitely give it that. Like it's definitely not worth $1300 though. I lucked out and got mine for $700.

Members jrk5150
Both would be cool! I like the original 5150/6505 a bit better than the II/+. Seems a little darker or more pissed off or something!
Members madryan
If someone can't get a nice thick sound out of a JSX they don't know how to use the EQ. Granted it's not as thick as my Dual Rec was but it's still a really bitchin amp. Much more versatile.
Members TheAmazingBlob
In a nutshell, JSX is versatile, 5150 has crushing metal tones. If you play metal, get a 5150, if you play a lot of stuff with some metal on the side, get a JSX.

Members kmanick
I actually got a Carvin legacy top loaded with V30's and my 5150 sounds even better, so I've decided to sell the Marshall cab and my B-52 At-100 combo and buy the JSX but keep the 5150 combo
