Hi,

This may have been mentioned... I didn't read every word of the thread.

On that sample mp3... what speaker(s)?

Love the tone... I may have to add a Peters to my new Fuchs ODS... which can get great tones, too.

Thanks for the backing track... I like it!!

Hi Ted,

Stu used a Celestion G12H30 speaker. To get the sound he did, turning down the treble was part of the process too. It can sound more tight and aggressive if the treble is turned up a bit, but Stu was specifically going for a warmer/softer sound.

If you have any more questions you can contact me too if you like. Thanks!

I'm glad you guys like it. :) Can't wait to get more clips up...well I sort of have to wait a bit, but hopefully very soon at least one more LOD clip, then other clips of other designs will follow.

I think it sounds very good. The amp sounds like it has a fairly tight response, no?

Now to the negative. :D

I almost forgot - I recorded it with the amp at about, say, 1.5 - 2 on the dial. You could call it bedroom volume I think.

I absolutely hate these kind of qualifications. Yeah, I know it's not possible for some to turn the amp up, but I want to hear the amp at least moving the speaker.

It can be. But it can also be looser/squishier if you want it to be. You can set the Custom Dual Channel amps either way or inbetween to varying degrees.

The speakers were moving. Just because it's a 20W amp and the master was on about 2/10 doesn't mean it wasn't moving the speaker. :) Especially when it's playing through a 1x12 cab.

Oh and btw, that was a large diaphragm condenser used to record it. So it doesn't need a pummelling like a 57 or something. LDCs work really well at lower volumes.

Sounds like a cool feature.

It doesn't matter to me if it's 120 watts, if it's at "bedroom volume" it's not moving the speaker like I prefer to hear in clips. Remember James, I've owned and tracked low wattage amps. :D

The mic used was an Audio-Technica AT3035 mic set fairly close on my 1x12 cab with a G12H30. I used a tiny bit of compression from the "VST Dynamics" compressor/limiter that's built into Cubase to help even out some of the peaks and added a bit of reverb (using the free SIR impulse reverb) to help it sit in the mix as the backing track has some reverb in it.

Yeah, man, good tone and playing. However, I'd like to hear it w/o the compression too...and maybe with a little more presence dialed in. It's sounding smooth (the way I like), but a little flat.

You can't assume the amp will sound terribly different at a higher volume though, even if you've owned lots of other amps that do. These are Peters amps.

I should also remind you--20W push pull with 2x6V6 and transformers like I use, into a 1x12 cabinet with a single G12H30--it is indeed "moving the speaker".

The next clip (which Stu did as well) will be uploaded soon. It has less of the "smooth/squishy" thing going on and more of the "tighter/snappier" thing going on.

I used my PRS Standard 22 with the stock Dragon II pickups.

I also dialed the amp in for a smoother, thicker kind of lead tone -highs at 9:00 o'clock, mids at 3:00 o'clock, turned down the presence, set the depth switch for depth rather than damping to make the bass response thicker.

Ahh...that explains it! I could tell the amp sounds great, but was dialed in a little darker than I'd do it myself. But, that's why they come with EQ pots! Great tone, nonetheless.

Yeah...I deliberately dialled in that kind of darker, syrupy kind of tone. Personally, I like that kind of thing and I thought it suited the backing track since the BT has that smooth fusion thing going on.

The amp definitely can get a lot more raw and in-your-face than that - with more bite/presence, more aggressive attack, more heavy rock sounding. It just depends how you dial it in.

I'm glad a lot of you are liking the tone. I like it myself but I thought it might be too smooth for a lot of people. Still...we'll try to get something up with some more bite and presence to it as well. I did record some stuff but I know my playing wasn't as good this time around so the clip might only be about 5 seconds long since that's about as long as I could go between major gaffs :D
