See my posts in

Phil, you don't have a clue abut the facts. The picture they linked and the picture that appeared are 2 different pictures. It was not intentional. What happened, is when a url image is called from outside the website it is redirected to "the vile photo". This is an old school trick from site admins to deter people from hotlinking. If you were around more often other than promoting gear for personal gain, you would have seen how the thread evolved. You single handedly have driven away alot of people and have made this place alot less enjoyable.

Thanks

Assumption on your part.

Thanks for the explaination, but I can assure you I am well aware of how a redirect is done. I am well aware of what happened in this case. They jacked the guy's bandwidth and he slammed them back. But they did it HERE, on HC, and that kind of stuff keeps HC from showing up on a lot of sites due to blocking apps, and keeps a lot of people away from the site who would rather not have to look at stuff like that. And frankly, having seen the picture in question, I really can't blame them.

I've read the whole thread. How the thread evolved is really not the issue... the posting (even "accidentally") and reposting of the picture was.

And as far as me getting any personal gains from the review I posted to, let's just review the facts for a second...

1. I'm building and reviewing two amps.

2. They are kits, and they can not be returned to the manufacturer after the review in the same condition they arrived in. And since the manufacturer could actually profit from the reviewer's build time by selling the returned completed units (kits nearly always sell for less than completed units), and since that gives the manufacturer a unfair benefit, an ethical and equitable solution needs to be found when reviewing kits.

3. The arrangement Rich and I came to (and that was discussed behind the scenes with the HC brass) was that I would build and review the two amps, retain complete and total control of the opinions I voice in the review pertaining to what I like and dislike (IOW, "no strings attached"), and that after the review completed, I would send one amp back and retain one amp.

4. That's nearly fair, but it would actually give me a slight advantage, since a completed amp probably isn't going to be worth double the cost of an unbuilt kit. So to make up for that, I'm not getting paid to do this review, even though under normal circumstances, I would. So actually I'm behind where I would normally be when doing a paid review. I'm out considerable time (not only doing the normal review process, but also on the build time), without financial compensation (and yeah, when I write a magazine or Pro Review, I usually get paid for writing my opinions), and the company gets treated fairly, but are not given an unfair advantage in the review or profit made from the reviewer's labor.

Oh, and I told everyone what the deal was right up front. No deception, and no profit except for the amp I get to keep - which is more than offset by what I put into the arrangement.

You single handedly have driven away alot of people and have made this place alot less enjoyable.

Thanks

We're not trying to drive anyone (except trolls and troublemakers;) ) away, and forgive me for being willing to be "public" enough to offer an explaination to you for what happened behind the scenes in a matter that didn't directly pertain to you. And again you make an assumption when you say it was me that banned them, when you have absolutely no way of knowing who did it... and there are several mods and admins who silently watch things here.

As I said, I generally like those guys and have nothing aganst them... except they mesed up, weren't careful about who's bandwidth they jacked and brought something in here that
doesn't belong here under any circumstances,
and they got zapped for it.

But here's the thing. The bannings were meant to send a public message about hotlinking... and that is, be careful and don't cause something like that image getting posted to happen here again please. If you're savvy enough to know about redirects, you should know the difference between a site that might slam you when you jack their bandwidth and one that isn't going to. And if you don't, then hotlinking probably isn't for you. They either didn't know or got careless... and the message is "hey folks, be careful with the hotlinks and don't get careless".

We know it was not intentional, and because of that, they have a way back. Their IP's are not banned at the moment, and if they send one of us a PM, we can discuss it privately, and chances are very good they'll be let right back on to HC.

So there's your answer. The owners of this site have a right to set and enforce the rules you all agreed to when you signed up. We don't like to have to do that, and now that the point has been made, the people who messed up have a way back in if they want it.

Frankly, while I can understand why everyone would be in an uproar at the banning of well known and popular forumites, the fact is, they messed up. But it's not the end of the world or the big drama you're all making it out to be.

Phil, banning someone because they quoted someone's stupid post is bull{censored}... I think the forum is better off without myk, but ranalli shouldn't have been banned.

The problem with that is that they're directly reposting something that doesn't belong here at all, and they knew it, or at least should have known it. The message being sent is again clear... when you see something that doesn't belong here, don't post it a second and third time by quoting the post.

But again, a PM exchange and they'll probably be right back, so don't get so upset that the folks who are providing you a free place to hang and other freebie services had the audacity to make a public point about being careful to follow a few simple rules while you're our guests.

We want you to have a great time hanging out here, but we ask that you please try not to puke and crap on the carpets. ;) Honestly, if I did that at a party at your house, wouldn't you have me escorted to the door... or worse? ;)

Dude... this isn't a free place to hang out... we pay for our visits every time we have to look at the advertisements and other such things that are pushed on us from this site - THAT is our payment, and HC is definately making money off of us, otherwise it wouldn't be up in the first place. Stop trying to pitch the whole "We pay for it" nonsense.

Furthermore, making them PM you and basically beg for reinstatement is basically a God trip for you, which I wouldn't do out of principle, and I suspect neither will they.
