Members desiderium
Ok, I've finally decided to start checking out ebay now that I'll have a little more money at my disposal and hope to buy some gear that I've had to pass on for several years. I've filled out the paypal account and am now waiting it to be confirmed. Things I should look for? Things to avoid? I've seen auctions before, but have never bid on one, so any tips would be great... I know a lot of you do this often. Thanks!
Members Megadeth7684
Always check the seller's feedback, if it's all good, you usually don't have to worry about anything.

Members Megadeth7684
I've had a Line 6 POD 2.0, POD XT, and a V-Amp 2. I didn't like any of them for high gain stuff, although I liked the effects on all of them. Modelers are good for cleans and mid gain stuff, but IMO they suck for high gain tones. Members Megadeth7684
Yeah, Tesseract and Meshuggah run EQ pedals before them and get good tone, but they just weren't for me. I'm a more plug in and play kinda guy, I don't like all the millions of options in the Line 6 stuff.

Members Bradman006
Be VERY careful. There are plenty of scammers. - Check feedback - Whenever you can pay through pay pal (they offer $1500 buyer protection compared to ebays $375 (AUD). - Make sure you email/message the seller, only buy if they give good communication, and answer ALL of your questions. - If its too good to be true, then its probably a scam. - Check the location of the seller (be aware of indonesian, russian, Chinese, middle eastern sellers etc. they often scam and also sell items cheap but charge HEAPS of $$$ postage). I learned the hard way this year. Payed $405AUD for an I-pod that never came. I ended up getting $375 back through Ebays buyer protection. I have bought other stuff without any trouble, and bought a guitar off ebay yesterday. Communication is the key. If they dont reply to you then its probably a scam. YOu can usually sus out the dodgey ones. Good luck!
Members Megadeth7684
If you use Ebay a good bit, you WILL get scammed or {censored}ed over at least once, no matter how careful you are. It's happened to me a few times. Nothing major, but still annoying.

Sniping is the best way to keep the prices low and advoid getting into a bidding war with those ebayers that always have to be the high bidder. Either that or they file for bankrupt so you'll never see your money. It's fairly safe if your careful tough. Just don't rush into anything. Its GREAT for selling though. I sell photos taht I take (of bands) on there from time to time. Sold 2 packs of metallica photos with ticket stubs for $100 AUD a piece. I'll have more on soon. I alsot learned this the hard way and missed out on a left handed ESP custom.I won the bidding for my Ibanez yesterday. I waited for the final minute, put in my bid, waited a few more seconds then clicked the button. It avoided a final bidding war (people often bid in spite). I snipped the winning bid and ended up gettign the guitar for only $10 more than the starting bid.(Left handed Ibanez 320FM with new Dimarzio pickups and Ibanez hard case for $605 AUD after shipping costs)http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7375907516&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=

It's like a poker game and you never show your cards or your intent as far a I'm concerned. Sure I could put my max bid in with 3 days left in the auction but that just gives people time to try to find out what my max bid is untill they are the minimum over me. By then the price is driven up really high and you now have to ask yourself if you want to bid higher yourself.
Members WhiskeyBucket
One tip. I buy a lot of amps from ebay, and one thing you have to remember is this: If you are buying a vintage tube amp, be sure to add in the cost of retubing and rebiasing the amp when you calculate whether or not you're getting a "fair deal". I have yet to get any tube amp older than a few years from ebay that had a completely good set of tubes in it. If it's a very highly rated seller and they specify that the tubes are good then that's another thing, but don't expect to pick up anyone's dusty 66 bassman from there and have it come with a fresh set of JJ's in it. Never happens. People selling things like that on there are usually getting rid of stuff they can't afford to hang on to, meaning they certainly don't have extra money to invest in reconditioning it.
