Members Dave_Mc_2 Posted January 5, 2006 Members Posted January 5, 2006 i haven't tried the xxl, but it's solid state. How much does the hellraiser go for? Add the money for the hellraiser to your budget for the amp, and then blow it all on the amp (preferably engl/peavey 6505/laneyvh100r/something like that). That'll get you a better metal tone than a hellraiser through a

Can the AOR really do metal?I've been watching a few on ebay the last few months and they go for a relativley low price, but i always thought they had the sort of gain you'd get from a jcm800?I dont like the idea of having to boost the O/D (i switch between o/d and clean alot, and can't be arsed with tap dancing around my board to do this)

You'd need a pedal in front, but that's true of many amps.
Members southerndoom Posted January 10, 2006 Members Posted January 10, 2006 The 8 knob version aor has a good deal more gain and low end than a jcm800 .They can do metal without a boost .I have no problem playing metal with them.
