Calling the techs again

Seems like I have the worst of luck with electronics:( .

The Peavey XXX I just got developed a small hum couple of days ago. One thing I have noticed.. its the same hum that I can hear in the head itself while on standby(Putting my ear down to it).

I was checking something yesterday.. I was going to check the preamp tubes. I tapped on the metal where all of the tubes are mounted and got a 'thud' out of the speaker(had the volumes maxed). Then I started tapping the preamp tube covers; The tube tucked behind the tranny picked up the tapping very loudly. So I swaped it out with another tube(in the head in different position, I dont have spares). The the different tube in that same position was the loudest again. It didnt matter how I arranged the tubes that position right behind the tranny made a huge tap sound.

Maybe all of the preamp tubes are microphonic?

Im thinking that it has to do with tubes being microphonic and picking up the tranny hum.

What do y think techs?

a little hum inside the amp is no problem, its probably the transformers or something, nothing to worry about

i dont think youve got microphonic tubes either. When a tube is microfonic you dont hear a huge tap sound, but a a slowly decaying ringing noise.

im not a tech, but i think there's nothign wrong.
