It's awesome, obviously it's not a Pexi clone considering all the features but that Plexi tone is there in spades. Being able to have that tone from 1 watt up to 100 watts is also a plus.

At least in the clips on the Voodoo amps site. I have no idea in person.

That may be so but according to VoodooAmps the V-Plex is a clone of a selected 68 Plexi.

I'm sure it is... But in those clips it sounds like a tweaked/hotrodded Plexi. I can't say in person. The clip sounds great by the way.

Yup, I had it added after the fact since mine is older (serial #10). Works great - actually brings the amp down to 2-3 Watts and it pretty much sounds the same. Unbelievably 2-3 Watts through a 4x12 is still pretty loud though. Would work fine for practice with a drummer. If ya want bedroom, combine it with a Hot Plate on -4 or -8Db and it sounds great... I use the adjustable line out that was added as well to power my stereo effects...

Yeah... They're kinda pricey... Alot of these Plexi-type amps are someone's take on an idealized Plexi. In alot of cases, this is a good thing. They've done the research for you. You know you're getting top-notch transformers. New filter caps. Takes the guess work out it.

The other option is the Metro amp which aren't someone's take. They're as identical as identical can be. The problem is, some people want their plexi's "Idealized" ;)

I'm seriously considering building a Metroamp kit.

Marshall built the best plexi, years ago. :thu: Marshall themselves couldn't reproduce the magic they had years ago. There's many pieces that go into the pie of what was a vintage plexi. Many of those pieces aren't available today for many reasons. Start with tubes, they don't make them like they used to. IMO I don't care what parts you use if you slap a set of EH, Ruby, JJ, or any other new tube you are missing a key ingredient. Marshall was notorious for using surplus parts and samples. It is true that the amps sounded different. There's a lot of great Marshall clones being made today including some nice kits. There's even some out there selling the kits as there own amps. In the end you're playing ability will factor into that pie too. Pick one that sounds good to you.

This is just flat out great tone. Very plexi-ish in my opinion.

I personally don't think there's any magic or mystery to these amps. They've been dissected and documented extensively online. There are capacitors being created that mimic mustard caps. There are transformers being wound to Plexi specs. If you put all that stuff together properly, you should have a Plexi. There's no long lost Keebler elf magic going on here for crying out loud!

The odds of me finding a great sounding plexi locally isn't very good. I'm probably going to have to get one without trying it. That is why I'm asking on here.
