Members StringMachine
Most of the time I have been playing guitar I have always sat down in a chair. Typical bedroom wanker. Recently, I have been playing in a band and I find that I have been forced to adapt my picking style slightly while standing up. Certain things that were easy have become more challenging while standing up. My picking attack has changed. Anyone else run into this or have any thoughts? Members tlbonehead
Totally the opposite. I play much, much better standing,I guess because I play standing the vast majority of the time.
Members KirkHammett1
I find it easier sitting down for the most part. I started with classical guitar which is meant to be played sitting down. And when playing electric I hold the guitar as you would playing a classical. I find standing up playing easier than sitting down and playing it as I see most play it, with the guitar resting on the right knee.

Members unit11
Acoustic = sit down time, almost always. I have an ovation which is not the easiest to play standing up because of its silly tendancy to slide down your front. But with electric, I play sitting down at home, standing up for gigs and practice with a band. I'm more comfortable standing up. The only thing I notice between standing and sitting is that my upper arm doesn't get a cramp from staying back and up, where as standing, I get to just let my arms hang. I think i do a little better standing, I think it has something to do with being able to use the whole arm, but I can't really say for sure. Members jem7vwh
Yup, I've always been a bedroom wanker myself. I've always found it hard to play standing.

Members Dave_Mc_2
i normally play standing up, even when practicing, since i find it harder. sitting is easier for shredding, but i find it harder to get emotion into my playing while sitting- it's too passive or something... Members DeadNight Warrior
I find playing standing and sitting to be pretty much the same, as my guitar is high enough up that it doesn't even touch my legs when I'm sitting anyway. If you're having trouble playing standing up, have a think about why it is. Do you play with your guitar over on your right leg when you sit, but when you stand your guitar is in the centre of your body? That'll change how you have to play. Look at Eric Johnson. He seems have his guitar pulled over more towards his picking arm, much like how many guitarists play when they're sitting. How high up do you have your guitar when you're standing? etc. etc.
Members twally
Unless you have your guitar low when you play standing, you should wear your strap while sitting down. I read this (or was told this) many years ago and have found it to be true. Most of my plaing is wanking, but I have no problems standing in band situation becuase I wear my strap for either situation.TW
Members sukeetoshyoo88
mostly sitting down. when i stand i have a hard time playing complicated riffs and solos, due to my fingers being kind of short. i try to stand and get used to it, but it's hard. Members mysticaxe
I almost never play sitting down. Never have. Doesn't help that my main guitar for about 10 years was a Jackson Kelly - not exactly the most comfortable sitting guitar...

Members AmpliFIRE
definetly standing. the guitar is always in "the right" position. it moves around too much when sitting down...
Members Clypher
I would feel like an idiot just standing in my room... playing guitar. On a side note my Paul doesn't sit right when i'm sitting though... In any case, I don't really notice a difference in my playing when i'm standing or sitting, although my shoulder and neck don't cramp standing, but i'm sure with a slightly more comfortable guitar i would be fine sitting too. Members SteveP
It is a bit more difficult to play standing up but it doesn't really bother me either way. Usually I am standing though.

Members Code-001
I'm usually sitting but since I'm now wearing my guitar higher than I used to, I stand up more. I'll put my foot on my bed frame when I need to do some really fast shredding. m/
Members TWPietz37
I play with the guitar classical style when I sit down. That makes it a bit easier to go from sitting to standing and also balances the weight of the guitar better IMO. Tyler
