Members Cold_Fever
Fender Super Reverb: '65 vintage versus '65 reissue - which would you get? How much better is the sound of a Vintage amp? Pro's/cons ?
Members NoirAbattoir
The vintage ones are all PTP handwired and are far easier to work on. Basically, any tech anywhere will have an easier time working on a handwired amp over a pcb amp. Also, in my experience, the quality of the reissues is pretty bad. I can't count how many DRRI's I have played that were simply {censored}ed up or broken down. If you can afford the vintage go for it...
Members syrinx
I would buy the bassman reissue as well as the super reissue. I would buy a silverface deluxe though before buying a reissue. The reissue twin or a twin from the early seventies either would be good. I am not a fan of the cost of a 65 original super what with the cap jobs etc it would need- or the questionable work done to it if it had already been brought up to date. I go for reliability first, and with a super it either sounds right or it doesn`t- its not a subtle sound.
Members EddieVanHasbeen
My Super Reverb Reissue is absolutely fantastic. I haven't played an actual '65 but did own a '67 a few years back which was quite nice, but my Reissue can hang just fine. As far as PTP being eassier to work on, perhaps so, but pcb is still servicable and any tech worth their bench fee should be able to service it just fine. I gig my reissue quite frequently and have no problems at all. As for the chap who commented on the broken DRRI's, I believe it is pretty well documented that they have a ticking sound on the tremelo, but other than that I am not aware of any widespread problems with the line and am not sure why you have encountered so many that are broken. To my knowledge, I have heard of no problems witht the super reissue line. I too contemplated vintage vs. reissue, and ultimately went with the reissue this time around (I owned my previous Super before the reissues were available so vintage was the only choice). I'm quite pleased with the results. The SRRI's sound fantastic out of the box but of course can always be "adjusted" to your tastes with speaker changes (not necessary in this case, IMO, as the Jensons sound great), or tube upgrades. Unless you can get a vintage Super for cheaper than a reissue, I see no reason to buy one, unless owning vintage is important to you.
Members Guttermouth
the vintage super is gonna sound better ,is better built and will continue to go up in value.as long as it is serviced correctly when you get it - it should last you another 40 years easily. having worked on several of both i would definitely go vintage.
