If he's having it packed profesionally and shipping coast to coast that's about right. That's higher than I'd want to pay too, but sometimes it's worth it to get the amp in one piece and not go thru the horse {censored} with UPS or FedEx.

Whenever I have shipped my amps anywhere, the cost was around $75.00 after proper packaging (double boxed with tons of insulation, tubes removed and two packing lists in separate locations in case of "catastrophic failure" from the freight nazis) and shipping insurance. It also would consume about 1.5 hours of my time.

Anal rapage? If he is preparing it well, why would anyone not want to spend a measly $75.00 to make sure that they get what they paid for?

I work in shipping/receiving.

At most, the actual freight almost anywhere in the CONUS should be around 40 bucks. That's UPS Ground, which IMO, is overpriced.

Fed-Ex is much more reasonable. In most cases, I've found them to be about 10-15 dollars cheaper on freight.

The whole boxing up/packaging/insurence thing is a ripoff anyway. That's where the ever-so-popular UPS Store stays in business.

I just did a quick check on both sites and the shipping alone from me (Central NY) to the west coast is $50 FedEx and $60 UPS for ground. If he's paying to having it packed I still say this is not out of line. Even if he's packing it himself, $15 for boxes, tape, peanuts, and gas to get to the depot and drop it off isn't bad at all.

I have never listed a flat rate on an auction, but rather figured out what kind of shipping the winning bidder preferred after the auction, since this rate varied depending upon carrier, location and speed. Flexibility seems important, since I have been willing to ship around the world. It is a bit more work in selling (communication, quoting), but people I have sold to have been happy so far. If the winner of this auction turns out to be one state away, and just wants the cheapest carrier, the $75.00 flat rate may be too high.

I work in Logistics and it depends on what discounts your company has in place with either company...

No no no.

I'm talking about personal experience with my private business, not with my company's.

They've done studies, you know. Sixty percent of the time it's cheaper every time.

+1

Try Bax Global or Menlo UPS Supply Chain. UPS and FED EX are great for small packages, but you get better price breaks with Bax.
