Members Cold_Fever
I am planning to buy an Avatar 2X12 for use with my Marshall Jubilee combo that already has one 12" Vintage 30. Should I get the cab with 2 more Vintage 30's or go with the G12T-75 that comes standard with Marshall cabs. I like a good bottom end, but tight. Also, would you get a closed back or split back? Members code_blue
Closed back usually means alot more bass, its rare for people to play metal with an open back. I have 75's and Vintage 30's in my 4x12, and I like it alot.
Members Cold_Fever
I dont play metal. Classic rock more like it. I played through a Marshall 1936 2X12 with the closed back and G12T-75 speakers. Sound was good, plenty of bass, but its very narrow focused. The G12T-75 speakers seem to get a bad rep, everyone wants to upgrade to the Vintage 30 for some reason. I have read that the partial open back gives more dispersion although you lose some bass. Since I've already got one Vintage 30 in the combo amp, I am debating whether I need 2 more in the cab.
Members Moltar
I have a 4x12 that has a few inches open at the back right at the bottom. It sounds great. Tons of low end (not that I really need it), great projection out the front, but the open portion at the back really makes it FILL a room with sound. Best of both worlds. The cab btw is a Groove Factory with 70/80s.
Members Ripping Rudy
I have G12 75t's in my marshall 4x12 cab. Huge, smoking sound. They are not as mid focused as the Vintage 30's so you might have to up the mids on your EQ. {censored}, anyone that has Vintage 30's has to turn the mids down because they are really heavy in that area. Depends on the amp. Usually people with, say, Engls turn their mids up WITH V30 speakers. The type of amp greatly depends on what speakers should be used.
