ok, my engl screamer is playing up and i'm figuring i'm going to need to replace it in the near future so what do you think.

i'm looking for nice big fat heavy tones but not over the top metal, probably from ac/dc to metallica etc. mostly played for hard rock like ozzy and skid row and gunners and that.

anyone got any clips or insights???

Keep in mind that I might be a tad bit biased, but I think you should go with the Mark IV. It will provide you with the tones that you described and then some. R1 can get you nice fat blackface tones, R2 does great classic rock, and the Lead channel can do anything from liquid smooth leads to crack your skull heavy. Check the clips of R2 & the Lead Channel in my sig. Good luck in your search!

Both are probably awesome, I had a mark III (which I liked vvery much) but I'd definately go for the SAVAGE. It's more versatile and (far) less noisy than most marks I have heard at high gain applications. I also think the SAVAGE is a tad more versatile.

If you would have said canibul corpse, morbid angel covers I would have said Savage.

Mark IV's have a cooling fan.

You are in Australia? Availability and high mark up costs may be factors you need to consider as well.

It might be more cost effective to get an Engl over there.

Mark IV's are great amps, especially for old school metal.

Hey man, very nice clips! :thu: Just curious what cab/speakers you used, or do you have the combo?

Just out of curiosity, what are your R2 settings? I hang out on the lead channel most of the time, and I've been looking (though not very actively) for a good crunch tone like the clips in your sig.

mine mark IV has been in service sence 1991 and the only thing that has been done to maintain it is putting in new tubes when they start to sound flat. Hell the thing hasnt even been recapped.

Mark IV's are ultra reliable anybody who says different is a idiot.
