Members amiller
------------------------ OK, I've decided not to go the modelling route for a backup after all. Instead, I'm looking at reasonable priced heads. I've looked at the Stilletto, TSL, JSX and have decided that, of those three, the JSX would fit my needs best. But... Now, I'm interested in the Legacy compared to the JSX. I had a XXX a while back and really thought the crunch was great but that was about all. The lead was too thin and brittle...not my cup of tea. Since the JSX is based somewhat on the XXX, I'm worried the JSX will also be a one trick pony. Price:$1199 As for the Legacy, I'm concerned that the Legacy will not have enough gain, and there are only two channels. Price: $800 What do you guys think? The lead channel of the JSX is based on the XXX`s crunch channel. Since you liked the XXX`s crunch channel you will probably like the JSX`s lead channel. The JSX is a great amp. All three channels are very good sounding and very versatile.I don`t have any personal experience with the Legacy. Although I do have the latest Carvin catalog.Eric
Members TheDirtyCat
The jsx is definatly not a one trick pony. It has good cleans good marshall type crunch and can do really heavy stuff too. It sounds like it competes very well with some of the most expensive amps around! Members atbear
I recommend a Carvin V3. If you think the Legacy might not have enough gain, it probably won't. The JSX is good, but not as versitile, warm, or thick as a V3.

I really couldn't get a lead that I liked out of it.
Members dughaze
Something to consider is what speaker cab you get or will be using with whatever head. I got to play a Carvin V3 and a JSX and the JSX sounded better to me with a Vintage 30 cab and the V3 with the Carvin's matching G12t-75 cab than when we switched these cabs and heads. You have a valid question about the gain amounts in the 2 amps and I don't know. The clean and crunch of the JSX there is no better.

I disagree. I just tried out a JSX at a Daddy's store today, and I must say it was a VERY nice amp. All three channels had very nice sounds. However, I went to the carvin website and listened to the clips of the v3, and I was NOT IMPRESSED. Check out the clips at the following link and see if you agree:http://www.carvin.com/jamroom/rooms/V3/V3412.php

I used to like the Bogner mix but I'm now not digging the Bogner cab with the mixed speaker setup...something strange about the sound...gonna put the other two V30s back in there. Members vlad
Pick up a 2203x and an older JCM800 with G12T-75's in it. Throw your Keeley SD-1 in front of it...It might not end up being your "Backup rig"

Ebay...Even an older 2203 or MV JMP. Of course, then you'd need it checked out. It's a kickass amp though.Blimey!!http://cgi.ebay.com/MARSHALL-JCM800-2203x-100-Watt-Head_W0QQitemZ7379145418QQcategoryZ38075QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
