Members cosmiccharlie9
I recently purchased a Roland JC-120. I knew about the dreaded hiss before I bought it because it's not the first one I have owned. I love this amp but my ear has just grown more sensitive to the hiss.Has anyone ever found a solution to what causes this problem? Anyone have any ideas? Members 4nkam
I've heard about this hiss, but I've never experienced it with mine (JC120H)...when/how does it happen? MJ
Members cosmiccharlie9
Mine have all been 80's models. It is a constant underlying hiss that is present even if nothing is plugged into the amp. It also doesn't seem to matter whether your in channel 1 or 2. Messing with instrument volume & tone or external fx eq also has no real effect.
Members unholyaria
Some are worse than others. I've played two that were really bad, as in 'got on the phone for an RA # immediately.' It's normal if it's really subtle, but if it is overtly noticeable, then you got a bunk one. I'm just presuming it's the combo? I'm wondering if the heads have the same issue? Members cosmiccharlie9
It's a combo. It is certainly noticable though it still has a killer tone. There has to be a source for this flaw though, especially since some don't seem to have the problem.
Members unholyaria
Fer sure, but I'll tell ya, back when I was selling guitars and amps it was just an unspoken thing that if a JC-120 sounded like that it got sent back to Roland -- our repair guy wouldn't even touch it. That being the case I'm wondering if it might be a transformer issue or something else drastic.
Members cosmiccharlie9
I've never heard one that didn't have the hiss. I'm really not so sure if mine is really bad or just par for the course.
Members P.Payne
Reduce hiss from Roland JC-120 I know this post is old, but anyway, below is a link to how I got rid of the hiss with great success. It is a hardware modification Please see link
