If they are going to ban that they ought to ban ALL off topic posts. If they do this place will die. I am afraid that this si where it is heading if all it takes is a few people complaining about a thread.

I don't think the moderators are talking 'all or nothing' they don't seem to be THAT unreasonable to me...but, (I admit) I may not have all the info to qualify that statement cause I haven't been here very long.

that statement seems to be 'slippery slope/alarmist/paranoid' to me.

I agree with not allowing porn. I sometimes sit on here in the evenings with my daughter nearby and the last thing I want her to see is a chick getting rammed by a horse (although, I wouldn't mind seeing that myself). I think that stuff should be deleted immediately and not allowed.

But to lock an "appropriate" thread that a moderator determine himself isn't useful to anyone is goofy.

I agree.

A couple of guys arguing about what a power conditioner does is way inappropriate for an amp forum.

Yes, because this forum has the power to put MF out of business.

All you need to do is look at the amp lineup some of us on this forum sport, and you'll realize the buying power of HCAF.

What really get me rolling is when members give Craig crap, I have one of his books and a wealth of info.

Phil would be greeted with open arms at the HOM
:)

Obviously some here don't recall Craig from the old GP issues. The man knows some stuff!!!

This place is like a bar. I've been coming here since 2001, and have felt very comfortable here. Yeah, there's wackos, people you can't stand, trolls, but there's also alot of knowledge, some really good people, and a laugh or two. As Schmoe said, it is like the wild west, but once you figure it out, it's not that bad. You know who to stay away from, and who your resources are. For myself, I liked the "looseness" of the forum, because my life, as a plant manager, as a parent of three, has alot of structure in it. This was the place to get away from that, to "let loose" without ever leaving the house.

But now the bar is under new management. It's not the same place it was. Especially right now, there is a strongarm to get this place under control, and there's ways to do that, and there's ways to not do it. I've found that leadership is best won by familiarity and mutual respect. But having people like Administrator Dendy show up and treat people in an abrasive, condescending manner, that's wrong. I might agree in principle with the change or decision, but you win or lose me in the delivery.

Another thing about leadership is effective communication. Things are just changing, and I really haven't seen anyone lay down their vision of what this place is going to be a year from now, five years from now. This is part of a corporation now, so my guess there is a plan, or at least a vision. If I've missed it, I apologize.

But they run it now. So the choice becomes to stay or go. I'm struggling with it right now myself. I buy and sell alot of stuff on this forum. I also like to talk about things other than amps, in this forum. I don't want to go somewhere else, these are the people I "know." If the "powers that be" are going to start changing that, by locking threads that they deem to be going nowhere (or that two forumites deem to be going nowhere and complain), and by putting limitations on SPAM, then I'll probably leave.

My 0.02 on the situation.
