I love those lyrics - Neil Young is simply awesome, so here's some more:

woke up this morning with love in mind

it was raining outside but my love still shined

kept me warm till my plane touched the sky

--------

when the dream came I held my breath with my eyes closed

i went insane like a smoke-ring day when the wind blows

His lines are so simple, but like his music, perfect.

System Of A Down - Sugar :D

The kombucha mushroom people,
Sitting around all day,
Who can believe you,
Who can believe you,
Let your mother pray, (sugar)
Well I'm not there all the time you know
Some people, some people, some people,
Call it insane, yeah they call it insane, (sugar)
I play Russian roulette everyday, a man's sport,
With a bullet called life, yeah called life,(sugar)
You know that every time I try to go
Where I really want to be,
It's already where I am,
Cause I'm already there.(sugar)
The kombucha mushroom people,
Sitting around all day,
Who can believe you,
Who can believe you,
Let your mother pray, (sugar)
I got a gun the other day from Sako,
It's cute, small, fits right in my pocket,
Yeah, right in my pocket, (sugar)
My girl, you know, she lashes out at me sometimes,
And I just kick her, and then she's O.K. ,she's O.K.(sugar)
People are always chasing me down,
Trying to push my face to the ground,
Where all they really want to do,
Is suck out my mother {censored}ing brains, my brains (sugar).
The kombucha mushroom people,
Sitting around all day,
Who can believe you,
Who can believe you,
Let your mother pray
I sit, in my desolate room, no lights, no music,
Just anger,
I've killed everyone,
I'm away forever, but I'm feeling better,
How do I feel,
What do I say,
{censored} you, it all goes away,
How do I feel,
What do I say,
{censored} you, it all goes away,
How do I feel,
What do I say,
In the end it all goes away,
How do I feel,
What do I say,
In the end it all goes away,
How do I feel,
What do I say,
In the end it all goes away,
How do I feel,
What do I say,
In the end it all goes away,
How do I feel,
What do I say,
In the end it all goes away,
How do I feel,
What do I say,
In the end it all goes away,
In the end it all goes away,
In the end it all goes away,
In the end it all goes away,
In the end it all goes away.

.... watch the sunrise from the bottom of the sea- hendrix

seems i got to have a change in scene
cause every night i have the strangest dream
imprisoned by the way things used to be...- traffic

... and any line in dark side of the moon

There's leak, there's leak,
in the boiler room
The poor, the lame, the blind
Who are the ones that we kept in charge?
Killers, thieves, and lawyers

God's away, God's away,
God's away on Business. Business.
God's away, God's away,
God's away on Business. Business.

-Tom Waits

Some from Jimmy Buffett songs. Not sure if he wrote all the lyrics:

"I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead."

"And the wino and I know the pain of back bustin'
Like the farmer knows the pain of his pickup truck rustin'
Strange situations, wild occupations
Livin' my life like a song"

"While out on the beach there are two empty chairs
That say more than the people who ever sit there
From under my lone palm I can look out on the day"

"There's damsels in distress out there and we got all this beer.
We'l free them from their condos and bring 'em over here."

etc.

Give Me Some Truth - Lennon

i'm sick and tired of hearing
things
from uptight-short sighted-
narrow minded hyprocrits

all i want is the truth
just give me some truth

i've had enough of reading
things
by neurotic-psychotic-
pig headed politicians

all i want is the truth
just give me the truth

no short haired-yellow bellied
son of tricky-dicky
is gonna mother hubbard
soft soap me
with a pocketful of hope
money for dope
money for rope

i'm sick to death of seeing
things
from tight lipped -
condescending - mommies little
chauvinists

all i want is the truth
just give me some truth

i've had enough of watching
scenes
of schizophrenic - ego - centric
- paranoic - prima - donnas

all i want is the truth
just give me some truth

"Time can pass and time can heal
But it don't ever pass the way I feel
You went away a long time ago
And why you left I never knew"
-Gram Parsons
(I always liked how Gram would lead you to a rhyme & not go there)

"On the other side of town two lovers lie still
Cigarette smokin in the window sill
There's a picture locked up in an old suitcase
Billy closes his eyes but he still sees her face"
-Slaid Cleaves
(Slaid is a simple songwriter that paints a vivid picture with an economy of words)

"I was born my papa's son
A wonderin eye and a smokin gun
Now some of you would live through me
Lock me up and throw away the key"
-Steve Earle (enough said)

"My body was sharp and the dark air clean
and outrage my joyous companion"
-Townes Van Zandt
(Steve Earle once said that he would stand in Bob Dylan's livingroom, jump up on his coffee table wearing cowboy boots and proclaim that Townes Van Zandt is the greatest songwriter alive)

"I'd say goodbye if I could find how to begin
I'd say goodbye if I could find another friend
I'd say goodbye if I could do it all again
But I am just the prince of all we've been"

"You realize the Sun doesn't go down its just an illusion caused by the Earth spinning 'round" ~ "Do You Realize", The Flaming Lips

"If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts" ~ "Mrs Potter's Lullabye", Counting Crows

"Confusious might have been confused, and Buddha might have blown a fuse, I ooze, the muse" ~ "Coffee Shop", Red Hot Chili Peppers

"You believe in something else, to relieve your emptiness. And you dream about yourself, and you breathe and breathe the air. And its on and on and on. I just kinda died for you, you just kinda stared at me. We will always have that chance, we can do this one more time" ~ "Aurora", Foo Fighters

"I cross the oceans
I cross the seas
I cross the mountains
Like a new disease
I cross the borders
I cross the line
Never to see the light
'Til the end of time
I've seen the canyons
I've seen the cities
I've seen the prisons
That take such pity
When it comes to you
When it comes to me
It's just money
That sets you free

Hey my children what seems important
Won't last forever
Hey my children what seems important
Won't last forever

Take a look at the Earth
From a plane
You'll see the Earth
Cut up and in pain
Take a look at L.A.
From the sky
What you see
Should make you cry

I'm the scum of the Earth. . .
I am a cancer. . .
I am humanity. . " ~ "Cancer", Filter

Grand Funk Railroad 1970

Ain't seen a night, things work out right, go by.
Things on my mind, and I just don't have the time, and it don't seem right.
Ain't seen a day, that I don't hear people say, they know they're gonna' die.
This may seem a little bit crazy, but I don't think you should be so lazy.
If you think you've heard this before, well, stick around I'm gonna' tell you more.

One just like the other, sin's a good man's brother, but is that right?
You tell me that I don't, then I say I won't, but then I might.
You said this is the way it's supposed to be, but it just don't seem right to me, and that's outta' sight.
Some folks need an education, don't give up, or we'll loose the nation.
You say we need a revolution? It seems to be the only solution.

This was written and recorded when feeling and passion for music was the motivation, rather than money....like today's music. :o Lyrics are not great, but the performance was amazing!

Remember when you were young
You shone like the sun *mad laugh*
Shine on you Crazy Diamond

Now there's a look in your eyes
like black holes in the sky
Shine on you Crazy Diamond

you were caught in the crossfire
of childhood and stardom
blown on the steel breeze

come on you target
for far away laughter
come on you stranger
you legend you martyr
and shine!

You reached for the secret too soon
you cried for the moon
Shine on you Crazy Diamond!

Threatened by shadows at night
And exposed in the light
Shine On you crazy diamond!

Well you wore out your welcome
with random precision
rode on the steel breeze-

come on you raver
you seer of visions
come on you painter you piper
you prisoner, and shine!

Pink Floyd

1st verse:
Miracle people with marvelous hair
and a knack to do anything
better than anyone
I got a home with electrical air
and i live in a world
smaller than any one
I got a line a new frontier
I got a line on a new America
All of the people are vanishing here
I could be huge if I could just get from

chorus:
the outside of everything
to the inside of you
from the outside of everything
to the inside of you

Spike Jones and his City Slickers did a bunch of absolutely hilarious takeoffs based on pop tunes of their day, but one of my favorites is "My Old Flame"

The end of the song is done with a Peter Lorie voice, and goes:

My old flame
I can't even think of her name...What was her name...Laura, Chloe, Doris, Manny, Moe, Jack...no it couldn't have been Moe...

and all good intentions,
why don't you just send me the bill?
Don't forget the flowers
Someday
I know you will"

Uncle Tupelo, I Got Drunk

"You Can't
Spend your time alone
redigesting past regrets
Oh, no"

He wakes up in the morning
Does his teeth bite to eat and he's rolling
Never changes a thing
The week ends the week begins
She thinks, we look at each other
Wondering what the other is thinking
But we never say a thing
These crimes between us grow deeper

DMB - Ants Marching

I just always thought that the last line really kicked a$$. It speaks to a few relationships I've been in!

===========================================

And everytime it's the same damn thing
You make me stumble when it's my turn to sing
Another temptation in a lifetime of sin
But I'm knockin' on the door baby
Please - let me in!

That's one of mine :)

It goes with a song called Lifetime of Sin - you can listen to it on Songplanet.com (http://www.songplanet.com/artists/bands/674/) and tell me what you think..... or not!
