it's funny. practically every singer-songwriter on stage today is shooting props to jeff buckley and he's peppered in here among a lot more mainstream, less-interesting songwriters. this guy was amazing. i - in all honesty - could never stomach his voice too much, but the songwriting and songcraft: un-rucking-feal. i mean, how many guys in new york city tonight alone are going to be doing a buckley cover?

Hey all,
forgive me if someone's already mentioned this, but Paste Magazine recently made a list of the Top 100 Living Songwriters. I'd link it here, but their site is constipated right now.
Further fuel for the debate can be found in Rolling Stone's Top 500 Albums list. Naturally there's overlap commentary on songwriting, with lots of love shown to heavyweights like Dylan, Simon, Young, Wilson, Lennon/McCartney, etc. as well as bringing to light the contributions of more cult figures like Leonard Cohen.
