wesley, something to be said for communication and getting in touch with something that means something to a large number of folks.

also, you act as if instrumental phone hold music isn't common or average.

as far as instrumental guitaring goes:

link wray, the ventures = above average

sappy crap while you wait for the next available operator = well, you know...

Well, it's nice to see that's Wes's small but fanatical fan base is intact.

If a coked up, moneygrubbing record exec happens onto HC and discovers Wes's potential for getting people obsessed with him, he could end up being the next Fiddy Cent. Jazz-style.

Mad props, dawg.

It's funny that you're always around to document how much you think people are obsessed with Wes. In fact that's kinda what you're getting known for.

If you would read carefully, you would realize that I am obessed with the people who are obsessed with Wes, not Wes himself. ;)

Get it right, Spanky :D.

Not true. Unless you think Mozart, Coltrane, Hendrix, Van Halen, etc. are a-holes. They put their music out there and challenged the audience to catch up. And they did.

If

umm...you just named a bunch of artists that the 'average listeners' out there listen to quite a bit of....except for some of Coltrane's more "out there" stuff (which the average listener doesn't generally listen to) everyone you named is pretty easy to digest. though, smooth jazz does tend to upset my tummy...

If you don't aspire to that, you're aspiring to average.

Plain and simple. Like it or not.

Now, ain't this folly for the mediocrity board you so lovingly post on these days.

You could do better with better company.

'Nuff said.

Van Halen's music was certainly liked by the average person. He had a lot of fluffy pop singles. I get your point though. Make whatever music you want to, and hope people like it.

I won't say anything bad about your music, but you don't seem to be pushing any boundaries whatsoever. Your music is very safe and accessible. It seems like you aren't taking your own advice. And that's why you making this thread attracted my attention.

Push some musical boundaries and then get back to us.

one of these things is not like the others, brother.

comparing and contrasting {censored} from the mass-market recorded sound era w/ {censored} that was propped up by the patronage system of yesteryear is bad argumentizing.

deduct three points from WP's overall score.

If we don't write music for the average listener, how will they know what to buy? It's all about stuff, and what you hear in your head while you purchase it.

finally, an above average point.

Van Halen were a second rate garage band with a fast guitarist. They weren't challenging anyone other than over-competitive guitarists. Smooth "Jazz" is about as challenging as walking and chewing bubblegum. Any of the challenging music out there in the past 20 years, (Sonic Youth, The Pixies, decent hip-hop, etc...) you dismiss as trash, indicating that you're having a hard time "catching up" yourself.
