Members qq22
I agree Roni, Albinoni's Adagio is one of the saddest compositions and I too like the Karajan recording. I was going to mention it also, but figured it would be falling on death ears here... The SF Symphony also plays Barber's Adagio for Strings in the park each year on 9/11. Just because there are "popular" songs being discussed does not mean that people don't listen to what some would term "Real Music". All music is music. Members sevenroy
Man, I've listened to so many sad songs, it's hard to pick one. I would have to say that Tears in Heaven is the one that comes to mind, but does anybody know the song "Teddy Bear" about the little boy in the wheelchair and the truck drivers? I don't remember who it's by, but that song brings tears to my eyes every time. The same guy did a song about a rose that's really sad. Edit: Red Sovine is the artist...the song is Little Rosa
Members kikintyres
Suicide is PainlessFrom the movie(and tv instrumental) M.A.S.H. Through Early morning fog I see Visions of the things to be The pains that are withheld for me I realize and I can see That Suicide is Painless It brings on many changes And I can take or leave it if I please Try to find a way to make All our little joys relate Without that ever present hate But now I know that it's too late And (chorus) The game of life is hard to play I'm going to lose it anyway The losing card I'll someday lay So this is all I have to say That (chorus) The only way to win is cheat And lay it down before I'm beat And to another give a seat For that's the only painless feat 'Cause (chorus) The sword of time will pierce our skins It doesn't hurt when it begins But as it works it's way on in The pain grow stronger watch it grin For (chorus) A brave man once requested me To answer questions that are key Is it to be or not to be And I replied "Oh why ask me." Cause (chorus) And you can do the same thing if you please I am not sure who wrote it but I think it is one of the saddest songs ever.
Members Michael Jackson
Nothing but pure shock that Nick Drake has not been mentined once here. Tears in Heaven seems to be the popular choice and should be there indeed not the saddest song but is without question sad. Really so many good sad songs but aren't the best songs often written when people are distraught? Nick rake was one consitently sad artist though.. Nick Drake is one of the most emotionally gripping artists I have ever listened to. Black Eyed Dog indeed is a quality tune - so delicately simple I think that the guitar part only has about 5 notes in it and is only played on 3 strings... and there are no other instruments either. Also, the bitter irony of the song Fruit Tree. Almost a prophecy of his life and death. When you realise that Nick Drakes popularity has really only recently soared (possibly due to a car commercial and the song Pink Moon) - nearly 30 yrs after his death, the song takes on a whole new depth. I also love Northern Sky and Time has Told Me, but for very different and personal reasons. FIN
