First of all copyrighting your work is always a good idea before presenting it to another interested party. That's the easy part. The hard part is finding an "interested party". For the most part people who are in the music business are writing their own material or are connected to many people either by acquaintance or friendship who write music. Like most people they have a comfort zone involving certain people that they know, respect and enjoy working with. Getting in tight with some of these folks is how you'll probably be most successful. That means living and working in one of the big music business centers such as Nashville, Austin, LA, NY, Miami, etc. Once there you'll need to network and meet as many people as you can in the industry until you connect with folks that you can work with.

For an idea about what opportunities exist in the music industry I would suggest checking out Taxi's web site. They are a legit outfit that attempts to bring the work of songwriters and composers to the attention of people within the industry who are seeking new material.

Best of luck in your endeavors!
