JCM 900 SL-X problem

Got a Marshall JCM 900 SL-X.

It fires up, plays, then after it warms up the sound fades out. the first three preamp tubes fade out...all other stay lit. After it cools or something for a minute, the light back up and sound comes back. It continues to do this.

I've swapped out all tubes and it still does the same thing. Fuses are not blown.

Any idea? No techs in the area.

Send it to JerryP at FJA Mods. http://fjamods.com/

Just shoot him an email, and he'll get back to you about the details.

He's worked on a couple of my Marshalls, one being an SL-X with the same symptoms. Came back sounding great without anymore problems. You shouldn't be without it too long, he doesn't seem to mess around. He really goes through the amps, and does clean work. Won't meet a better guy either.

Just ask the other 100 hcaf guys that's sent him an amp...or two. :thu:

yeah, I'm gonna do it myself. Just need to find a replacement one to order. I'm guessing Mouser is the place to go. I just wanna get a better one for a replacement that hopefully won't fail again. That's kind where I need help. Don't know which one to order. Any help?

No. No local techs.

I can drain the caps and take all safety precautions.

I've done some basic amp work. I just don't fully understand EVERYTHING. I can change a component though. Not a big deal. Have done it before.
