I had never noticed that, but now that you mention it.... "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and "More Than a Feeling" is another funny reuse of a chord progression. But the bottom line is that there are a limited number of chord progressions and a (seemingly) unlimited number of songs. Do the math - there is nothing new under the sun (some days just look different than others).

alrigth, it wasn't just the chord progression...that was just the first thing to pop into my head when I was trying to describe the similarity (jesus, rsadasiv, you're almost as smug as I am). I have no idea what the chords are for either song. All I know is that my buddy said, "listen to this song. It sounds just like creep." And I was like, "damn, this sound JUST LIKE creep!"

Also Albert, My old moniker was pontiusplaymate. My ablum's almost done, and you had indicated that you'd like a copy. You should PM me your mailing address so I can send you a copy. I posted one of the completed songs here already.

I've heard this, but I don't hear it, never having done a back-to-back. Which part matches which part?

Chorus to chorus. Get the intro to SLTS into your head and then start singing "It's more than a feeling/More than a feeling". There is a Sleater-Kinney cover (forget the album, may be a live bootleg) which makes the comparison pretty obvious.

Not the same chord progression. Similar rhythm in the guitar part, but the chords are different. At least in the sections of the songs that I can remember at the moment.

For sure. Strumming pattern is similar, chord progression, is not.

SMTS - vi-ii-I-IV

MTAF - I-IV-vi-V

the only real chord similarity is that the first two chords in the progression(s) move a fourth. one's minor tonality and one's major tonality, but they're both using power chords, which are ambiguous to minor/major sounds, so they sound the same, but in context, one song's definitely a minor tonality song (SMTS) and one's a major tonality song (MTAF)...

i guess i'd have to add here that you should actually consider SMTM as a minor chord progression like this: i-iv-III-VI, but i made from a major perspective just to show the difference clearly between the two.

and that sexy/karma thing, they both go from Am to F#/D - so yeah.....

now, back to the internet pornography.......
